If they ain't, who is? (from the same time period)

tbh I'm having trouble thinking of the a better R&B guy group from that decade but if you wanna throw in female R&B groups from the 90s I'd easily give swv, en vogue, and tlc the nod over them. Maybe even 702 but that's a personal pick

and before you bandwagoners break into fake outrage; let me say, I was an actual fan of theres in real-time. and I still am, but I don't know how much longer its gonna last with this ever-growing stench.

2 things I love about jodeci:
- they have the best singles catalog of modern-day r&b
- on paper, theyre the goat. by that I mean, you kc & jojo as the frontmen vocally. Devante was making a run for goat producer. and Dalvin was another great musical guy in the background.

2 negatives that stand out to me:
- sure they have the best singles catalog, but they don't have a real classic album. they were basically the naughty by nature of r&b, and they got away with it. out-the-park homerun singles but the albums always fell short.
- they get credit for being the pioneers of all this chit, but in reality, they were just rolling with chit that was already poppin. they didn't start any of the stuff they get credit for.
:whew:

I agree.

And I was damn near a Jodeci stan back in the day.

Their singles were great but the albums always had a bunch of skip worthy material IMO.

They don't have that My Life level, undeniable classic in their catalog.

Pretty much. People loved them for their big songs, and what they represent. But no one listens to a Jodeci album all the way through.

THIS THIS THIS.

and they got away with it.

if they were rappers, they would be naugty by nature. lol. treach stayed in their videos too.

and I say that with respect cuz I was a naughty by nature fan too. but look at how that lack of a classic album hindered their legacy.

Naughty and Jodeci is a perfect comparison.

Mad I never thought of that. :snoop:

You started the thread saying Jodeci is the most overrated R&B group of all time.

The question I'm asking is, which R&B group from the 90's was better?

Can't believe I had to type all of that for you to understand my question

smh @ the bolded.

your question made no sense.
I stated that jodeci is overrated, and you replied asking "if they aint, then who is?"

think about that for a minute, before you get frustrated at people for not understanding you. LOL. I pretty much knew what you were TRYING to say, but I wanted to be on the safe side.

as for the answer to your question, it depends on what you look for in a group. I have no problem with jodeci being ranked #1 in those eras. but theres a gang of other groups that you can say are #1. that time period was really wide open when you think about it. I just hate the idea that they've become the generic go-to pick, and they're now seen as the be-all/end-all group of their era.

you can argue that.

all those groups got a classic. except maybe mint. i never heard all their prime stuff.

btw, jodeci ran with most of BBD's steez and get credit for it.

I think he's asking what (if any) R&B albums from 1991-1996 do you consider to be classics. I was about to ask the same thing.

EDIT: Not even trying to argue about it, I was genuinely curious.

theres too many classic albums from that period to sit down and type out on the humbug breh. and that's the thing. a long list can be made, and i cant include jodeci in it with a str8 face.

if you want to get to the core, and just talk about male r&b groups from that time period, they were always outclassed by numerous groups when it came to albums during their prime.

the other comparison I have for naughty by nature is that they were g-unit, 10 years before g-unit. and we see how 50 cent's legacy is lackin.

Jodeci has two classic albums:

Diary of a Mad Band
The Show, The Afterparty, The Hotel

Hardly overrated.

very overrated.

I never make it past the 1st half of diary.

the other album is too long and has too much of timbaland's goofy stench on numerous tracks.
