theyre not pretty much seen as the be-all/end-all.

how is that not overrated?

people act like it was all about jodeci & boyz II men, because they were the only 2 male groups that consistently got that push. other groups like silk & shai were on smaller labels. h-town was indie.
along with tony toni tone, if we're counting the bands. but chit, i always thought mint condition was colder than them, but again - smaller label.

So you're telling me there was a better group than Boyz II Men & Jodeci during their run? Shai had Comforter and If I Ever that's 2 hits. Silk had quite a few but they didn't have the style and swag of Jodeci or Boyz II Men. H-Town is comparable to Shai in terms of hits and a run. So you're left with Mint Condition and TTT and MAYBE AZ Yet. None of them were topping Jodeci and B2M in terms of cutting edge sound and style so please tell me who's topping them?

I agree.

And I was damn near a Jodeci stan back in the day.

Their singles were great but the albums always had a bunch of skip worthy material IMO.

They don't have that My Life level, undeniable classic in their catalog.

had to come back to this post for the bolded.

mary j. blige dropped way better albums than jodeci everytime they all came out back in the day..

no wonder k-ci used to beat her ass.:ohhh:

shai had more than 2 hits on that album alone. and their first album is CLASSIC. they did the harmony style better than boyz II men, on top of that.

h-town was the highest-selling independent r&b act back then. and their 1st 2 albums are classic.

would you be saying that silk lacked "style & swag" if they were on a better label? I doubt it/

AZ Yet didn't come out in that era. ive never seen them mentioned in this high of regard anyway.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Hmm. Wouldn't really call them overrated for their era cause they were needed imo. They did the damn thing and pieces from their group created other classic music in the future. I would argue that if there was no Jodeci than alotta things wouldn't have went the way it went in the 90s for both RnB and hip hop. For that alone I wouldn't call them overrated. I think u can be a legendary act without a classic album (even tho some would disagree with u on the point of them not having a classic). But I feel they had enough classic songs and have contributed enough to hip hop and RnB at the time to say their not overrated. I feel ur opinion tho.

Well the biggest R&B quartet of the 90s was Boyz II Men anyway and they were birth from New Jack Swing. I don't think Jodeci was overrated I actually think they were on the verge of being one of the best groups ever the thing was they broke up too soon before they had a chance to fall off.

that's the thing.

what other groups that are 3 albums & 5 years deep with no undeniable classic albums, are still given the distinction in the bolded?
that concept is crazy to me.

these are struggle examples.

father mc, timbaland & missy are all more synonymous with r&b than hip-hop. altho, theres a generation of commercialized rap fans, and a lot of them look at timbaland as royalty now.

doing hooks on rap songs isn't exactly a great contribution to hip-hop.

edit: I didn't know k-ci did the hook on "black girl lost". LOL. yall actually go back & listen to that song for anything other than chits & giggles?

Dog, your sounding like a retard now.

Doing hooks on rap songs isn't contributing to hip hop? What do you expect them to do, rap and sing the song? They can only do the hook on a rap song, otherwise if they sung on the whole song, it would be R&B.

PS It's not K-Ci on 'Black Girl Lost', its Jojo. If you don't know that, I don't know where to begin.

Your sounding like a cac shill right now.
