OH THE IRONY of this coming from you.

***goes back and reviews your post on page 1***

the nerve of this guy.:skip:

in other words, what have they done for hip-hop that's so special? clearly that's the point I was making.

clearly, I havnt heard "black girl lost" in YEARS. I remember when people used to clown that song.

what the f*ck is a shill? I only hear white people using that word. the irony of you calling someone a cac while using the word "shill".

and why are you so deep in your feelings?:heh:
Bro. Whether u like it or not Tim and Missy was behind some legendary hip hop and RnB. Missy was behind alotta hip hop that people didn't even know at the time. All About The Benjamins for instance.

@ the bolded - basically the other two groups with the best label situations. I see you.

and you ducked the hell out of my question. you were talking about your memories, and I asked you what ALBUM CUTS by jodeci evoked such memories. I guess google must be down right now.

ive never even been to texas.

who were all these groups that were poppin but couldn't sing back when jodeci was out?

drop some names.

As much as I love Jodeci. The reality is, HALF of their first 2 albums are classic. ie the first 5-6 songs on the albums, then after that it was clearly downhill.

It's weird actually. The songs that are good are completely timeless. Production that will never be duplicated, amazing vocals, harmonies.....then the uptempo stuff was just not good it's like they didn't try on the back half of the album.

low-key, there was one really good ballad on the 1st album. I forgot the name exactly. I think it was "Xs We Share". don't quote me on that tho.
EDIT: I meant to say "uptempo". not "ballad". SMH. time for me to go to sleep.

I think most people don't notice it because by the time that song comes up, people are already tuned out, if they didn't already eject the disc. whether they want to admit to such behavior or not. this @Deoji cat clearly doesn't mess with their album cuts himself, so we cant ask him to confirm, even tho hes reppin hard.

yea but theyre not synonymous with hip-hop like that outside of commercial hits.

benjamins was as commercial as it gets, whether you want to admit it or not. and what exactly did she do besides pick the verses? I coulda did that chit myself.

I think you cats are confusing Shai with Troop. Shai wasn't poppin like that brehs

Troop was more late 80's, super early 90's.

Shai was hot for a bit. They weren't a tier 1 group like B2M or Jodeci, but they did their thing with the few singles from that first album.

IMO, Dru Hill was the most well-rounded R&B group of the 90's. They had the Jodeci-type talent and they could make uptempos

Forever My Lady, I'm Still Waiting and U&I

But ppl do sleep on x's we share. I remember they performed it on In Living Color. After U&I the rest of the album falls off bad.

that's all you can name? you were talking like these were the majority. it took 2 pages to get 2 names out of you.

and those acts had lanes. keith sweat was a businessman that knew how to sing without being a good singer. basically he was the master p of r&b, before there was a master p.
TLC was a hybrid group.

wheres all these male groups competing against jodeci that couldn't sing?

and I'm still waiting on those great jodeci album cuts.

@jadillac my bad @ the bolded. I meant to say "uptempo" not "ballad".

"Xs we share" was low-key a really good uptempo track from them.

with that said, I gotta go to sleep. I really f*cked that post up.

Son I know they are commercial songs. But shyt woulda been a lil different without them. It's like ur being willfully ignorant to what im sayin and nitpicky bro. Lol. She arranged. Produced and featured on certain records. U cant even deny Tim brought a different sound to the industry. Devonte had a dream team fam. And without him none of them may have seen the light of day. Whether u like the music or not. Or however u feel. They made an impact. That's all I'm tryna say.

Basically tracks 1-5 on the first album are etched in R&B history. Absolutely undeniable songs. Classics in every sense.

Same can be said for 1-4 on the 2nd album. And then #6("Alone", wasn't a hit but dope nonetheless).

After that point, BOTH albums fall off hard. And to me, that's why the albums aren't complete classics.

things would've been different for the better without those songs actually.

what did missy produce? she arranged. sure. I would've told styles to fallback on benjamins too.......after, I was already halfway out the door of course.:whoa:

Back in MIA
jokes.. Diary of a Mad Band is a certified classic and one of the best R&B albums of that decade at least. Devante was a beast on production, mane. K-Ci and Jojo could actually sing. For them to thrive in a golden era of R&B says a lot.
Exactly
