I came into the theater very skeptical but man, I was impressed. I thought Tarantino actually handled the slavery quite tastefully, you felt the slaves pain but he didn't revel in it and he could have at several moments.
Here are some quick notes
-This is the 1st time I thought Jamie Foxx was good in an action movie. I felt like you were watching this dude grow into a real gunman and by the end his skills were unparalelled. He was excellent. His mentor Waltz was excellent as the sensei/trainer, and he did his role terrifically, all the credit in the world
- Leonardo Dicaprio is gonna win an Oscar, Calvin Candie was one of the most dastardly villains I've seen on film and that's saying something because I hate cowboy movies out of a select few. Dude was on point.
-Samuel Jackson was having too much fun out there. It's clear Tarantino let him write is own lines and let him flesh out his character. The fukkery was brilliant. Best House Negro ever.
-Kerry Washington was worth
for and I don't even like her like that.
All that being said, this movie has made its way onto Tarantino's best films, from a technical standpoint it's his best, the cinematography, the shots were awesome and will be used in film classes in the future, and the acting by everyone was terrific. Outside of maybe Black Dynamite, Foxx's Django is one of the best black heroes of the past decade. This movie will become a classic and is Tarantino's 2nd best film after Pulp Fiction.
