The more I look at things like this, the more I wonder if I have to move from Chicago to get my career popped off.
I was getting like 25$ plus travel pay
But like I said.. I did a lil bit of everything between tier 1-2 and that was entry level for me. I actually renegotiated my contract like 3 times that year
Yes... Yes I haveDid you ever work on and troubleshoot AS/400 ? I hate this shyt, the thing I hate about IT is they dont tech real world shyt at school, Half of the time I had to take shyt off bigot as CAC''s to learn something.
Yes... Yes I have
fukk that too...
And its not the tech schools fault, this is just old ass shyt that these bumass shipping companies and other companies dont want to change up because this is what they've been using for decades... Im talking about since the 80's.
They tried to make me an AS/400 tech too. And then there are some backups and shyt with like 30 steps that takes HOURS to do that thry tried to make me do every sunday right before I got off my shift.
I was like either you get someone else to do it or you get someone else to cover my last 3 hours because no way am I doing this and answering calls to fix these bum ass scanners/rebooting servers at the same time.
Trying to spread nikkas thin by making them do 20 different things (that they dont even bother to learn) while they be at home chillin because they don't want to pay for more techs or do the shyt themselves.
I was even coming in on my days off to help, learn, and teach AS/400 shyt.
Sorry for the rant but that shyt got me heated. Especially for backups. And then, if a company who uses the AS/400 interface to print shyt and do whatever has an issue and its something that YOau cant fix, you got to call their headquarters or whatever and have them do the shyt for you (but they always try to act like its not shyt on their end)
Yeah IP conflict, thats what I called them bumass nikkas for one day. I forgot the name of that big ass trash printer that was causing the conflict. No lies,
Our AS/400 controlled the thermal printer communication and most of the time that shyt had IP conflict As of now I just want to specialize in something, this jack of all trades shyt isn't for me
Being responsible for every piece of technology in a 1 million+ square feet place like this is fukking stressful, Having two or three it specialist/desktop support over this big ass shyt
I feel like most help desk jobs would like to see an A+. Some will hire you without it but you might have to express why you can do the job without an A+. Best way use to study online through Udemy, Lynda, Pluralsight. Then go take the test. You can find playlists on YouTube too.To get a helpdesk job do I NEED A+? That shyt hella easy , learned it in HS but never took cert
also some cat told me to say fukk A+ and go straight for CCENT
wsup brehs

Get the A+ first. Then go from there. I'm not in IT but I'm fairly knowledgeable about the process. Unless you're already working in IT, I would go ahead and get the A+ first. Not only for job purposes but to also put something on your resume, to have something to be proud of, and to have something to build on. Also, you get experience on test taking which you will have to do sometimes. For people where IT comes naturally and had someone guide through the ropes, they might not have to get a cert. But don't compare yourself to them.Yeah but should I just pay for CCENT or pay for A+ ?? Im pretty sure I will pass both tests

Check out the lower level Microsoft cert too. I think it is called MSCA. A+, CCENT, and MCSA is a dope combo but also overkill for help desk. But there are different tiers of help desk also where all of those would come in handy.yup imma do that then . tax refund in like 3 weeks, I need to invest in myself. Gonna take both tests and hit up some Udemy and see how my resume looking by mid year
good lookin

I feel like a A+ is kinda irrelevant doing helpdesk. imo, here is some direct information and skills you need so you want be wasting your time learning
1.Try and find out what ticketing system the company uses, ServiceNow, Remedy, etc. try to familiarize with the system, because you will be using that 100% of the time . Find some youtube tutorials or download spiceworks ticketing system to practice
2. learn Office 365 and how to troubleshoot the suite!!! (pluralsight videos )
3. Learn how to remote desktop, basic active directory, I recommend some win7/ 10 pluralsight videos
4 Practice on your typing speed and customer service phone skills ( Remember you may be on the phone all day talking )
------------------
Basically man all you will doing is making tickets, escalating tickets and troubleshooting over the phone
