Well I think all the extra security measures happened post 911 as far as closing the door and what not. Someone mentioned one of the pilots leaving the door open. I would too. Don't know what the ( standard operating procedures ) SOPs are but I'd rather give myself that chance to get back into the cockpit incase something goes down. In the end it shouldn't be right that the cockpit can only be accessed from inside because of over compensation of fear of terrorist attacks.
I've flown the cessna caravan into mara before and there's no partition between passengers and crew. I'm never worried any of them will pull a stunt, although the front row ones are nosey as hell watching you're every move.
bottom line there should be a way to let yourself back into the cabin. The chances of both pilots doing something stupid in agreement will be unlikely. There should be more required to override flight plans. Perhaps a key code or something if you're diverting.
But RIP to the passengers and crew. This should never have happened and j hope reasonable adjustments are made to make sure it never does in the future.
