I know the Jay stans will be upset but we have to address this. First of all we have to stop throwing out the term "classic" everytime we like something. SMH @ nikkas calling Food & Liquor 2 "classic" it hasnt even dropped retail yet. But about The BP, why is this album considered classic? I hear a very solid Jay album with soul production for the first time in his career. Izzo is a recognizable single. The album flows great. Lyrics on point. But classic? What impact did it have on rap? How did it change the game? Reasonable Doubt is far more of a classic than BP. Hola Hovito is trash and Jigga That nikka doesnt fit. The rest is solid. I'll give it 4/5 but cant call this one a classic because it had no impact. There's actually a lot of albums considered "classic" that really arent. There's a difference between personal classic and hip-hop classic.

EDIT: Was Reasonable Doubt considered classic when it dropped? Wu Biggie and Nas already had the mafia drug lord image on lock. Jay was following his big homey Biggie. But Reasonable Doubt is way better than BP.

:comeon: ever heard of these 2 producers named Kanye & Just Blaze?

To me, RD was Jay's most natural sounding album, no over the top shyt, or trying to pander to the mainstream. Just thoughtful lyrics, excellent flow, and smooth ass beats(that complimented his style perfectly).

From start to finish it just flowed, no track seemed out of place, nothing seemed forced. RD was a proper artist album.

The definitive answer is Stillmatic.

Only one of the last 5 songs are really dope.

Rule
My Country
Braveheart :pacspit:
Every Ghetto

Forgettable, filler or simply trash. None of these songs have anything classic about them at all.

Rewind is great the first few times you here it but... personally I skip it now. Same thing with Smokin', good little song but nothing exceptional. If What Goes Around came after The Flyest and ended the album it would be a proper classic. As it is, 1/3 of the album is nowhere near classic and it's all clumped towards the end. The last 3rd of the album is a skipfest.

If you disagree, you're a disgusting Stan.

The problem is that people tend to look at the impact or trends that an album may have instead of the actual quality of the music if may have. Therefore an album may be considered a classic because "it is the first album that this happened, and everyone followed" and not this song, this song, these lyrics, this feel, etc.

Out of all the albums in here you say TM101? This album has more claim to being a classic than half the albums in here. Debut of a rapper that put him on the map for A LONG ass time. Went plat. Had the streets and singles on smash. Quality is bananas for the actual target audience. Really helped kicked off trap music as a genre. Had an entire region hype off the album. To this day, can be considered the best trap album made. Might even be the last classic out of the south, or even the last modern classic album period technically if you want an album that covers all the bases.

This entire topic is awful:snoop:

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton

I love N.W.A. But its a classic based on a handful of songs. Half the album can't even be classified as gangsta rap. Something 2 Dance 2? I can't fukk with this track. And Something Like That and Compton's N the House don't mix with the rest of the album at all.
