My god the level of comprehension in this thread is horrible. BOTH of the new systems will have some sort of drm check in place. No different than steam on the PC. Sony is smart because they are letting microsoft take the heat. Then when all is said and done they will implement theirs. Sony has said they will leave it up too the developers, What do you think developers will do? huh?

Now this is not set in stone with the whole 24hr check in, Microsoft has said so. I'm sure we will learn more at E3. Let's be honest with ourselves we have nothing but are fellow gamers to blame for this mess. If Piracy was not so rambate this would not have happened. So blame that guy with the modded 360 & PS3.

What do you mean? Is this your first experience with DRM? I don't understand.

Because instead if talking about the issue you'd rather Stan/bash either system. Like I said in the first post. No matter how its implemented DRM will be an issue for next gen games. Whether you have to check once a day, once everytime you boot up, or the game has to be "always online". Your favorite games will probably have something.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to talk about the issue objectively without any fanboy shyt in the middle.

Again, it's not DRM that's the issue, it's their method of implementation. I don't want a manufacturer to have the ability to disable something that I've paid for. Christ, this isn't that hard, breh. It's hard to imagine someone arguing against that point, and yet here you are.

Is a game disc with a DRM requirement not "disabled" when the Internet is off?

And again why does it matter? If you buy 5 games for your ps4 and they all have DRM then what good is your ps4 when the Internet goes out?

i agree with everything you said except i don't think piracy is the issue behind the console version of drm. imo this is a move against 2nd hand sales. what i find hilarious about this is the fact that the biggest appeal of console gaming was the ability to put your game in and play with out any of the hassle pc gamers had to go through with authenticating games and what not. i mean if you're fine with this why not just get a gaming computer. it does everything a console does or want to and does it better. hell the pc is even getting a kinect soon http://www.pcworld.com/article/2039526/new-microsoft-kinect-enters-pc-motion-controller-wars.html.

Depends entirely on the implementation. Most games these days require a one-time serial # or keycode to activate it. Your experience may vary.

For the 5th (and final) time :comeon:... I don't have a problem with DRM. I have a problem with the manufacturer requiring me to check-in with them daily to prove I'm not a criminal, and having the ability to temporarily brick my product as a result.

Im sure it play a role too, but piracy is a big issue too. You can go look in any towns craigslist and find a dude who will mod your system for a few bucks.

yeah but when you really think about it console modding is nothing like pc piracy. console pirates are nothing more then a small niche. i personally don't know anyone with a modded system and all my friends are gamers. they do sell their games on craiglist and they use gamefly. imo there is no way this isn't about 2nd hand games, especially since microsoft(and maybe sony) might be implementing ways to trade games through their own perspective service.

Well no policy said the product will be bricked. They said some features will work, some wont.

And what if its the game that makes you check everytime you played it. Would you be ok with that?

Nope. There's a reason Games for Windows Live failed miserably. I'll let you Google it if you're interested. Microsoft didn't learn anything there. If they want another lesson... let 'em have it.

Edit: I have bought games that had that tho, without prior knowledge of the DRM scheme. It wasn't a big deal, but in general, if a game doesn't require an internet connection, I don't like it feeding info to big brother.

What's the difference? If the game you want to play requires you to be online. Then why do you care who requires it?

Well the DRM situation on the 360 looks to be system wide and from the sounds of it, affect everything.

Sony said DRM isn't forced by them but it's up to the devs. Only dev I know of so far that's enforcing one is Ubisoft with their upcoming Assassins Creed IV. To what extent it will be in no one knows but that may go on a game by game basis vs system wide DRM on Xbone's part.

I have no ties to any gaming console (Although I do find it hilarious in someone's post earlier that MS themselves didn't even mention gaming until after movies or TV). I have no real problem if the console requires the internet from time to time for software updates.

I do have a problem with forced verification every damn day. That's all this online check in is. Just like it does on windows if you don't have a legit copy of office. If I bought a legit copy whether it's used or new I should be able to play it. Pirating ain't that bad of an issue. Microsoft decided they wanted in on another market when they should've just understood there's always going to be a used market for everything. You don't see Apple trying to get in on Craigslist sales of iphones or Ford trying to cop used car sales of every Explorer out there. This is them trying to monopolize a gaming market and it's a terrible idea. They thought more people would be cool with it and didn't realize how bad the backlash would be hence, "We're not releasing all of the details now".

I'll never have a problem with innovation, but this ain't innovation. This is talking sideways to try to explain a terrible idea based on greed.
