Nope. There's a reason Games for Windows Live failed miserably. I'll let you Google it if you're interested. Microsoft didn't learn anything there. If they want another lesson... let 'em have it.

Edit: I have bought games that had that tho, without prior knowledge of the DRM scheme. It wasn't a big deal, but in general, if a game doesn't require an internet connection, I don't like it feeding info to big brother.

So I saw you in the other thread by @Loose about the cloud computing. I know it's an exaggeration but even if part of that is true. Do you think that's worth an "always online" connection? Especially as Internet connections improve you have to admit that's pretty cool.

Man if that were true, it'd be worth it. :lawd:

But... if that were true, they'd be a$$holes to use that power just for video games.

Well the DRM situation on the 360 looks to be system wide and from the sounds of it, affect everything.

Sony said DRM isn't forced by them but it's up to the devs. Only dev I know of so far that's enforcing one is Ubisoft with their upcoming Assassins Creed IV. To what extent it will be in no one knows but that may go on a game by game basis vs system wide DRM on Xbone's part.

You know what's funny about this.

Sony says "we never thought about it" "it's up to the publishers"

Sony IS a publisher obviously they've thought about it.:heh: and if you think ubisoft is gonna get that money and no one else will your fooling yourself.

And either way the question is more hypothetical. You know it's the direction the industry is going. Do you think some of the innovations we get in return are worth the hassle or will you not purchase the games with the requirement?

That's what I'm trying to get at. Is this the evolution of gamming or is it the beginning of the end?:why:
Well... time will tell. IMO, the reason it would be worth it is because it would actually benefit the consumer (in addition to being really fukking awesome).

What they're doing now just benefits the manufacturer, from what I can tell.

I honestly don't really see the innovations of DRM to be quite honest. I mean I have a few games with DRM checks on my PC and they aren't bothersome because I can still opt to play the game itself offline. GTA IV comes to mind; it asks me to sign into Rockstar Gaming club to access MP but :yeshrug: It's not a problem to me since I have to be online anyway.

Batman Arkham City has some sort of DRM with Games for Windows live but I haven't had any problems with it. I've seen some complaints for it online but I never looked into it much. It seems to stem from activating the game on different PC's I think :yeshrug: If a game I want play has DRM on it I'm not going to avoid it because I want to still play the game.

i dont mind if the system updates on its own. the cons i see are:

- cloud gaming for single player games - my internet does drop out sometimes at random. when im online gaming this can be frustrating but when im playing a single player game, i dont currently have to worry about it. however, if single player games need to be on the cloud and if i am playing a single player game and it drops out I will be pissed.

- once a day verification checks - the main reason for the 24 hour check seems to be that it wants to be sure your not using a pirate game. thats the only logical reason for it. i dont see any reason for single player games to need to be connected every 24 hours. and truthfully, i have the internet, and it is extremely rare for my internet to not work for an entire 24 hours. but, this seems completely pointless. which leads me to my next point

- activation fees for used/borrowed games - what the fukk? seriously. and you can say, "but that has nothing to do with always online", gtfoh, that has everything to do with always online. if i buy a game its mine. if i sell it or give it to a friend as a gift or a loan, i dont want him to be charged the full price or any price for that matter to play it. if they dont want me to put it on my hard drive and then put the same game on his hard drive then they should have a way to block it being played on two different accounts, like maybe when its activated with the disc in one profile it deactivates it from the other profile, but i dont know how this would be possible, maybe they could innovate something to do this.

yeah but when you really think about it console modding is nothing like pc piracy. console pirates are nothing more then a small niche. i personally don't know anyone with a modded system and all my friends are gamers. they do sell their games on craiglist and they use gamefly. imo there is no way this isn't about 2nd hand games, especially since microsoft(and maybe sony) might be implementing ways to trade games through their own perspective service.

the thing is that console modding wont be necessary to pirate anymore. basically with the new technology, you will be able to upload your game to the HDD and then sell it or give it away but still keep and play your copy on the HDD. that right there is essentially pirating. instead of buying games you could rent or borrow them, upload them to your HDD and now you have your own copy without having actually purchased the game. that is what they are fighting. its a new form of piracy that wasn't really available until now. however, the way they are going about it, charging fees for used games is BS and just a way to make money. surely they could have implemented other forms of verification and blocking used games

I never said you couldn't play it offline..I said you can't get the most out of them...game updates, online multiplayer, apps etc.

u nikkas lack comprehension

no shyt you can't play online without an internet connection. my point is that you can still at least play offline singleplayer. every game doesn't have multiplayer and the fact you can't play shyt PERIOD if you don't check in with MS every day is absurd man.

For the 5th (and final) time :comeon:... I don't have a problem with DRM. I have a problem with the manufacturer requiring me to check-in with them daily to prove I'm not a criminal, and having the ability to temporarily brick my product as a result.

QFT.

I'd like to see what EA does since they killed their online pass. They are good on the Xbox side seeing how MS is getting shot up like Tony Montana at the end of Scarface over this shyt, but I wonder what (or if) they do anything on the PS side.

Will Sony have some kind of DRM? They'll have something. But again, like they've always said, it will be up to publishers. It won't be mandated at the system level.

ONe thing yall forget is that used gaming is fukking HUGE out in Japan. Sony is not killing that market in their homeland. Sorry, but it aint happening. No one gives a fukk about Xbox there so :yeshrug:

shyt is disgusting how just because MS is fukking up, yall want Sony to do the same thing to not feel alone getting fukked. shyt is disgusting.

I hear you...but we still don't know the full details regarding this announcement. Wait for more clarification from MS.

that's what it boils down to.

I thought the online pass was a good compromise this gen, but obviously MS (with EA in the background pulling the strings obviously) are being ridiculously greedy.
