You are fukking lying omg :laff:
Breh, i can hook up my PS3 to an SDTV but you're saying I'm required to use an HDTV??
I have a phone that's NOT on a data plan and I can use it just fine without it.
SMH @ you mentioning requiring to use discs as a point. nikka, the storage medium got NOTHING to do with this. It's as stupid as you saying, "PS3 came out and it REQUIRED you to use BluRay discs!" No shyt sherlock, it's a bluray player that uses blurays which games all come on. :what: the fukk is wrong with your thinking today breh?

When games were switched to discs people complained that the discs would get scratched and they wouldn't last as long as cartridges.

When Microsoft made XBL broadband only people complained that too many people had dial up.

Ps3 didn't ship with a sdtv solution you had to buy an extra connector if you wanted to use your old tube.

Yes you can buy an iphone without a data plan, but it will cost you $600. Would you be willing to pay $600-$800 for a gaming system without drm?

One more time stop with the fanboy shyt. Either talk about the question at hand or go back to the console wars thread.

You just selectively ignoring the point everyone is trying to make by countering with extreme situations and obvious things we know about. NOBODY here is saying we WANT an always OFFLINE console and that we'd prefer NOT to update apps and games. NO ONE IS SAYING THAT :mindblown:

We are saying, in the potential event that we just can't connect to the internet for a period of time, we DON'T want our system to be rendered USELESS because it needs to be connected online just to frigging function.

Last year when Sandy hit, I lost internet connectivity for about a week. I was still able to use all my systems, just couldn't go online. Fine. That's understandable as I'm missing a link here.

Now imagine this SAME scenario except on day 2 after 24 hours, I get a prompt telling me the console hasn't been connected online in a day and I need to connect to the servers for verification. Now imagine you CAN'T EVEN BOOT UP some apps and games that should work offline because the way the game is developed, it's always using some sort of internet function to process.

Imagine in the imminent future, you're playing Halo 5 and you lost internet due to a storm. Your friends are over the next day to hang out and when y'all try to play halo, you can't play offline MP because the maps and features of the match are supposed to be working alongside some "cloud" that keeps everything up to date and stable. Now imagine that.
*awaits the "Fam, I'd just watch a movie or something, I don't need to play games all the time unlike you" post*

Sounds like you should stop gaming because this is what you will be dealing with whether you like it or not.

you can't use a lot of apps on the 360 or the ps3 unless you have an internet connection. You can't use youtube, netflix, hbo go, the mlb network, internet browsers etc. without being online. I can name a lot more...but u get the point. You also can't play any multiplayer games online, get DLC etc. Yet it seem like knowledge of these things have been erased from ppl's minds just because of the xbox.

we have always had consoles that needed to be online to get the best out of them...but i guess this slipped your mind because of the xbox one. I would love to see you nikkas get on youtube without connecting your ps3's to the internet.
Imagine not being able to unlock your phone without bars, friend.

and? Take better care of your discs and be more vigilant nikka, nobody can't change what storage mediums a game is shipped on. You acting like there were two slots on the PS1 to play games. Plus a damn cartridge is limited in space.

When Microsoft made XBL broadband only people complained that too many people had dial up.
And?? The service at the time probably would've been hampered if it had to support dial-up and you probably wouldn't be stanning XBL so much had it did so.
Ps3 didn't ship with a sdtv solution you had to buy an extra connector if you wanted to use your old tube.
Stop it. I bought the PS3 and it came with a composite cable and NOT a HDMI. Either way, using an SDTV was OPTIONAL. What we're talking about ISN'T optional.

Iphone isn't the only fukking phone on the market dumbass. I can buy any other phone from someone, online or in store and get on a prepaid plan. Either way you look at it, you have options on how to get data. You're FORCED to use ONE plan and ONLY one plan. Plus if data ran out, you could use Wifi. How is this a good analogy to having to be ALWAYS online where it may or may not work at all for Xbone?

The fukking irony of this post i swear. :skip:

For the record, I haven't seen anybody argue here in favor of playing offline over online. Speaking for myself, I just think imposing a strict, 24/hr or else DRM system is ridiculous no matter which way you spin it.

It's y'all doing the stanning. I'm trying to have a real conversation. The op wasn't about either system but the industry as a whole.

As so called gamers we should be able to have these conversations. If you think about it from the business side, something needs to be done for us to continue playing games. Gaming budgets are up, game sales and profits are down. If that trend stays true for this gen then there will be no ps5.

Gamers are so stuck on fanboy wars and childish complaining that they can't see what's really going on.

I agree completely.

I disagree that "what needs to be done" is to give the manufacturer the ability to disable a product that I've paid for, based on nothing more than not having "checked in" to a server every day.

I mean it's not like we're talking about them having evidence of pirating and disabling your console; that'd be one thing.

We're talking about Microsoft having the ability to "ground you" because you didn't "call home" in time. We're talking about you paying them money for that service. It's cool to you. It's not cool to me. Simple as that.

Don't loose your Internet connection, your acting like games don't need updates and new shyt. Plus offline is limited.

And?? The service at the time probably would've been hampered if it had to support dial-up and you probably wouldn't be stanning XBL so much had it did so.
And?? the games would be hampered if they didn't have a constant connection and we probably wouldn't stan Uncharted 4 when it comes out.

Stop it. I bought the PS3 and it came with a composite cable and NOT a HDMI. Either way, using an SDTV was OPTIONAL. What we're talking about ISN'T optional.
It was only optional if you didn't want to read the words on the screen

:whoa: I'm no dumbass. You're missing the point. The question is would you purchase an Unsubsidized PS4 so you wouldn't have to deal with DRM? Or do you think they should offer a bunch of different versions with a bunch of different plans?:mjpls:

The fukking irony of this post i swear. :skip:
I'm buying both, I have no reason to Stan either. I just thought I'd have a discussion on this "discussion board"

I never said it was cool with me. I was thinking about it and I thought I'd try to get some insight on it. In some ways it sounds cool, in other ways it sounds fukked. Either way, it's what we will have to deal with this gen so it's worth talking about :manny:

Once E3 is here and sony makes it clear as day that it won't be always online, xbots might just jump off a cliff...

No, breh, you don't have to deal with it. Do more than "talk about it online". If you learn more about it and you don't like it, then vote with your dollars. Don't buy an XBOX One, and you won't have to deal with it.
