I made a thread yesterday basically talking about this very subject. Truth is who cares what people say. People will complain about every and anything "innovative" until they get used to it. What you just explained is happening regardless if people like it or not. So lets look at it this way, what if this stuff happened 20yrs ago. What would life of been like? Well, who remembers going to there friends house to play games? Imagine you didn't have to bring the game with you, cuz they could just sign in via there gamertag and play the game on any console? Would of been awesome. Who remembers blowing into cartridges? Wouldn't of ever needed to happen. Who had a game damaged or stolen, maybe you let a friend borrow it and you never got it back? Impossible moving forward. Scratched disc, nope. Then when your done playing, you can still sell the game to gamestop/etc. And when the next man authenticates the disc? Then you lose ownership. Somebody might not even buy that game for months.. you probably still can access it til that happens. And if not, you sold it anyway so you shouldn't have that ability. But you might Should we throw away all this innovation so some clown can be like "Hey, look at my lame fukk videogame collection!!!" (no offense to those who are ballin like that one guy) but its true. I'd much rather be able to switch between games on the fly than to admire a videogame collection. And if thats your angle, then used games isn't even an option. Lets embrace the future, or lets go back to music CD's. No more megamix's unless you got a 6disc in the car. There might be a little delay between CD's but hey, look at that CD case collection you get to carry aroundLets go back to that my gamers!!!
Forcing you to be online 24/7 is nonsense because you can't control every external circumstance that may prevent you from connecting e.g. storms, connection issues, suspended ISP accounts, location.
The cellphone argument is moot because i can still use my cell phone even if it's not on 3g/Wifi. Imagine you can't open up apps period without an internet signal.
That won't be the case though. Movies and single player games can be played without a connection.
What do you think about the new features that are enabled by this type of system? Are they worth the hassle of online passes or whatever other "solutions" they come up with?
What about the fact that most games use online features anyway? Would you rather games stick to seperate online/offline experiences?
why would you compare a cellphone to a video game console?
Even if you play offline you still have to check in every 24 hours on Live! And if you don't your shyt won't play? What is so hard to understand about that!
Sent from my HTCONE Suckaz!!!
Because it's not an innovation; it's just DRM. DRM that I, as a non-pirating gamer, resent.
Honestly, what's the logical purpose for a console to require an always online connection other than to constantly validate the credentials of the content being used on the system? It doesn't enhance the gaming experience whatsoever.
Stop with the fanboy shyt. If you want to talk about the subject fine, but I'm not interested in fanboy wars.
Sony is pushing for a similar system, this is something we ALL have to deal with. Do you have any insight to the questions posed in the op or the post you quoted?
Cloud gaming, instant switching between games, being able to access your full game library and your profile through the cloud, new online concepts from developers. Are a few of the "advantages"
Do you feel they are worth it?
Sony didn't say you have to make sure the PS4 connects online every 24 hours to play. THAT'S what we're really worried about.
Gakai for PS4 is the same as what you're talking about. Instant game switching aka multitasking is possible on phones, the vita and tablets nowadays. Nothing advantageous imo.
