Once i hear some crab shyt like that its time to get outta there
You're very right. Honestly, the more I think about it the more I've come to realize I was at fault in the whole situation. I tried to go after a nice to have, rather than a need to have i.e. I tried to leave the department (nice to have) when the real goal was to leave the firm (need to have).
My whole agenda, especially after I got promoted in March was to leave my current company to a more globally recognized firm, even though I REALLY disliked my department. I've had recruiters reach out to me for roles paying more at mid-size/niche companies. I turned those down because I know the move after my next move (Nigeria) and there's a certain corporate background/profile you want to come with (highly skilled with experience at big name firms - think IBM, Deloitte, HP, Amex, Microsoft, Bank of America, Pepsi etc). Additionally, some of these bigger companies have operations in Nigeria which would allow me kill two birds with one stone in that I can transfer to the Nigerian office, gain some insight and build connections in the corporate/business space in Nigeria while still working on personal endeavors.
To accomplish that, I was willing to spend a little more time at my company to ensure my next move was the right move and would fulfill the parameters needed for my pivot to Nigeria rather than leave because I was getting tired/frustrated of my department.
Hell, some Coli dudes even forwarded my resume internally at their companies
It was my family friend who recommended I apply for the role. She said the role would be good as a boost on my resume when looking to leave externally. I could sit in the role until the end of summer and just dip on some "it wasn't what I expected". In hindsight it wasn't bad advice, but it really wasn't what I needed to focus on. Yes, I'd get to leave my department and the dour environment, but I would only be changing seats on the bus, when in fact I need to get on a different bus altogether.
Anyway, got a few interviews this week so I'm prepping for those. Summer is always a tough time for recruiting but I really gotta be up and out of here now that my cards are on the table.
