Anyone ever apply to a federal job using USAJobs.gov? I'm trying to get this resume right and its a lot of work. nikkas better read this shyt when i apply :martin:
I'm a government employee. While most resumes anywhere else are bullet points in one page, federal resumes should be in paragraph form and include all relevant information. My resume is 4 pages long.

I have been at my current job for 4 years but I don't think much has changed. Although I hear they are trying to include bullet point resumes now. I would still write it in paragraph form.

Note, if you get hired, it could take months for your security clearance to clear. Good luck.

Preciate that homie. How much experience did you have when you applied? I'm practically fresh out of school. Using a lot of volunteer and unpaid experience

Plenty. I have been in government since 1998...although I was at a much lower level then. (GS-2: Mail-room clerk. I'm a GS-13: Staff Accountant now).

There are a lot of programs for people fresh out of college. We just hired one this week. He got hired through a job fair interview in which our agency participated in. So I don't know if he actually submitted a resume through usajobs.

What field are you in/majored and where are you located? Are you willing to re-locate?

Are you in Houston?

I checked usajobs and there aren't any specific openings. What they do have, however, is "open continuous" job openings. Normally an announcement stays on usajobs for two weeks. If you ever see any that are open for 6 months or a year, that means the hiring agency is keeping the job announcement open for an indefinite period of time.

Here is the search for Houston:

USAJOBS - Search

The key for federal resumes are the 'keywords'. Look at the responsibilities of the job announcement and put any relevant information in block paragraph form. Try to give specific examples for each responsibility if possible.

When you first apply you'll go to a self-assessment questionnaire portion. In this online questionnaire, mark yourself as a D or E. D is you have done the job independent without supervision. E is expert. For each question there is a score (1-5 with 5 (E) being the highest). Keep in mind, these questions may come up again in the interview.

I had a phone interview, and what I did was screen shot the questionnaire as I did it. I also wrote out answers to any potential questions that they may ask (even normal stuff like "tell me about yourself"). I'm not the greatest speaker in the world...in fact, I'm terrible at it. That method really helped me in phone interviews.

I'm a pharmacist. I'm open to moving but I'd rather not. There's a few openings with a few different agencies right now but a lot of them require me to relocate. I'm at the point where I'm open to it if they offer me something.

I need some advice y'all.

I unexpectedly had my bi-annual review this morning. After receiving my bonus, I told my boss that I was disheartened that my responsibilities have increased recently while my overall pay has become stagnant. (Yearly raises slightly better than the rate or inflation).

I have a follow-up meeting with my boss tomorrow. I think I screwed myself over by accepting additional responsibilities without securing additional compensation, but I am at the negotiating table now either way and I'm curious what advice you would give if you were in the same shoes?

Based on the email he sent after our review, his impression is that finding a more fulfilling role in the company and a long term plan will resolve my frustrations. However, from my perspective, my main concern at the moment is an increase in my pay.

I am willing to do what it takes to get paid more money, but I will be frustrated if the additional responsibilities that I have undertaken are ignored. It is not that they are moving the goal posts, because they never existed, but from my standpoint, I perhaps foolishly expected my increased responsibilities to be rewarded.

From my perspective, I do have a sizable emergency fund and will work on bettering my professional skillset and undoing some poor habits that I've developed after working for the last 8 years, so there are some benefits to just walking away from it all. I do want either a raise or a change in the job title so that if/when I do quit, I have more power if/when I decide to re-enter the workforce.

My questions are:
  1. How likely is it that the company will acknowledge my increased responsibilities and pay me for those? I'm guessing it's unlikely the more I think about it but I'm unsure.
  2. I actually enjoy my current position and I am curious how do I artfully redirect my manager so that he is aware that I am more concerned about the money than being fulfilled within the company?
  3. Any additional tips?

Interviews have been picking up. Looks like I'll have another 2 this week. Getting more and more comfortable articulating my story and what I'm looking for. The job hunt process is similar to working out. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. I've just been going hard with the personal network. I've gone through my family members linkedins and asked them to refer me to their contacts that work at firms I'm interested in. At this rate, I should hopefully have a new gig before summer ends. Which will be good because I'm looking to move out of my current place end of summer, latest September. Finances, Fitness, Future. The summer motto.

Side note: Was talking to a coworker today about personal finances and man...a lot of people out here are heavily leveraged. Home, car, credit cards etc. Dude makes very good money but he's telling me that even his CCs alone are quite a burden.

i dont care next job i secure has to come from a referral im done with wasting time applying on websites

Ohh, that applying online thing ain’t getting you far unless you’re 110% qualified.

I remember I applied to a company online and they didn’t reply with my denail until the following year :russ:

Applying online is akin to throwing a needle into a haystack. A referral is telling the recruiter where in the haystack to look for the needle.

Not even a month in and they already have me regretting my decision to join this team. MFs want me to solve every problem and do everything that pops up. I'm about to start interviewing again, this is some bullshyt.
