Latter parts of 2018 got mad stressful but I still got two feet on the ground. Praise the Lord because honestly, some can't say the same. Without him I'd have been food in these streets. Praying 2019 starts off positively and I can go from there on out. Got my US citizenship in the works (finally filed, even though I was BSing for like 8 months and could have been naturalized by now) and potentially I land this new job with a significant pay bump. Should be debt free by early February at the latest. By my birthday in April my financial foundation will be air tight (took me a while to get to it, but better at 24 than later in life).

Once I transition roles I'll take a few weeks off to travel to Nigeria, scope out the economy, network and reflect on my mission in the US. Also de-stress a bit and visit family. I may try to sneak into SA, but that requires a visa and having a crystal clear date of when I plan on traveling which would be dependent on when I get a new position so TBD on that. If I can't slide into SA then def would hit up either Ghana or the East African Bloc (Kenya Rwanda and Uganda, most likely). 2.5 weeks would be sufficient for all that travel especially if I'm only doing Abuja and Lagos in Nigeria.
How long have you lived in the states?

I want to travel to Nigeria and Cape Town so bad.

The media makes Nigeria look like a 3rd world country, but that place is fukking amazing. Parts of it look as good as any major city and is full of people eating good. Of course the government is corrupt (like most developed governments in the world), but I was blown away to see what the country really was.

Nigeria is mad fun if you're in the right area and go out of your way to meet people. It's a very engaging society (Lagos particularly). Been to Jo'Burg, not Cape Town, thinking about it for my next trip but there's something about the energy of Jozi I just can't shake.

Def get out to Lagos if you're up to it.

I need to narrow down an educational plan right away. I did find a masters program for data analytics. It teaches about data and predictive modeling as well as data mining. That's useful and then one certification...in I don't know what still. I still don't have a good idea of what I'll be working on and I would prefer the certification tie in directly to daily duties.

Took a bit of a breather researching this new company I'm applying for. I'm off tomorrow and Tuesday as well. Gonna workout then hit the library to do more research. I plan to use Monday to understand finalize the role, the function and how the company has been doing. All of Tuesday will be just running through my resume, seeing how I fit with the role and doing practice interviews/talking speaking about my resume.

Kinda been proudly staring at my paystub for the past half an hour. My YTD and bank account aren't lining up the way they should, but I did make a large-ish purchase mid-way through the year that ate almost all of my savings and put me back in to paycheck to paycheck mode. There are a few areas I can cut costs in, namely car insurance and housing. I could pay less on my loans but I want them to be done and dusted ASAP. When that's done then I'll free up an extra 600 bucks, and by that time I should have at least another 2 raises, if not a new job paying more. Exciting times.

For those with liquid funds, what are doing right now? I have mine just sitting in a MM account waiting to see what happens with the housing/stock market.

Right now I'm just saving, I would like to get into the 75k 85k range in expendable savings, so I can just put a dp down on the land I want to buy.
So me, nothing, I'm very risk averse, so I can't see myself investing or going into any ventures right now.

Networking is one of the easiest skills to master but I feel many people fall through the cracks.

Networking, to me, is nothing more than keeping your network abreast with what's going on in your life and asking them about theirs. You still have to be proactive about it though.

A simple text or an email is all it takes to warm up a cold contact.

Speaking of which, I probably need to send out Happy New Year's to my family and professional network.

i started purchasing marijuana stocks...I am currently for the past month studying day trading and doing paper trades, I feel like in about 6 months I am going to go live. I feel like I could be doing so much more with my liquid funds that just keeping in the bank.

Just save up a certain sum and then cap it.

People often think when they say save, they mean keep saving forever. Nah. Save to a certain limit, cap it, then turn those savings into various investments (day trading, 401k, real estate, private ventures etc).

ph said it, but I have a purpose that I'm saving for so it isn't indefinite for me, there is something that I'm aiming to do
