So I talked Cash Money about wanting a promotion this year and making more money blah blah blah. Applied for a job that has more responsibility and a paygrade above mine. They left a message for me to interview with the hiring manager. I missed the call because I was away from the phone. I havent returned the call.
Im kinda chickening out now :lupe:
Am I really ready to stomp with the big dogs?

No time like the present.
Making the jump is always risky, but you know what you are ready for, talk to the man, the only thing they can tell you is no.

I second this. No one gets ahead by doing what they're comfortable in. I'm interviewing for a position tomorrow that is fiercely competitive and would have me up swimming with the sharks but guess what, I wanna grow :yeshrug:

"No one is born an expert at anything"

As we say in Nigeria: "The person getting first in the class isn't born with two heads".

No need to be scared.

Even if you suck at it you'll gain something from the experience. Always a lesson to be learned from failure.

Granted i think you'll get comfortable after a while and kill it, go for it breh

YOU WERE BORN READY!! Call them back and make it seem like it was their fault for calling you when you were away.

The Lord performed another mircale in 2019 :wow:

We on to round 2!!! :blessed:

Next part is a phone based case interview. Should last 45-50 mins. Supposed to be pretty quant based, which I actually like. It means there's right answer. Interview is 10+ days away so I have 2 good weekends to brush up on my algebra, calculus and the like.

Practice really makes perfect. I had done like 10+ practice interviews over the weekend. Just constantly working on my story and getting things tight. I did stumble a bit in my interview but when I did, I paused before carrying on. One thing I find interviews is particularly helpful is keeping things high level. It forces you to be concise. When you try to over explain yourself, you run the risk of rambling.

I think what may have sealed the deal for the interviewer was when I hit her with this question

"So what does success look like in your department and what are the steps you personally take to drive results within your team and influence the broader org"

Ole girl was like :ohhh::whoa:

She was out there stuttering. The phone even "disconnected" :youngsabo:

She called back and gave me an answer then hit me with the same question

"So Phcitywarrior, what does success look like for you in your department"

Me: "Well I work in Sales Strategy, Analytics and Ops and support the broader Corporate Sales function. For us, success is simple; Our yearly revenue goal. It's a single quantified number that we constantly track against. We don't hit that number and it's not really a successful year for us" :ld:

Side note: I don't know if this is the norm but the lady who interviewed me isn't in the city I applied for. I applied to remain in the DC area, possibly move to NYC if the money was right. She wasn't in the aforementioned cities. Anyway, it's a big company so maybe they just looked for someone who was willing to take a call.

It's coming up on year-end appraisals, I'll still push my current manager for a promotion and raise. I know he's gonna try and give me the run around. Talking about some "I want to ensure you have the right skills and development for this next level :mjpls:"

All in all, feeling pretty good.
