damn, my girl on one of the teams i work closely with is out on vacation and got laid off - like jeez, imagine being in costa rica and can't receive the news first hand, another chick on her team is close to giving birth and got let go


edit 2: damn, just saw one of my teammates was let go, she just started in sept but it makes sense, they cut her two projects


lol, my manager got the promo...but between this and all the shyt they were talking about a review cycle and forcing people into lower performance levels, i'm just gonna keep a lightly active job search...tech is a hot mess right now

Damn, was the severance at least decent?

I need to get back into tech, one of these jobs need to pan out so I can get back to them checks

Really proud of myself for following my gut and getting the hell out of my old department. Even though I'm in the same company, it legit feels like I am in a different company since everyone is way more pleasant, the work is 100x more interesting, and I can tell my superiors are also invested in my growth.

Also gotta love the fact that an intern from my old team came up to me today and in so many words said they are struggling. (I could tell cause these mfs won't stop hitting me up still). When they found out about the new department extending me an offer they were on some we'll be fine without you.

it was good for a company our size, 12 weeks + 4 more for every year you were with the company (which it's a young startup, most people have been here less than 2 years), advanced options vesting cliff

very much was a preemptive layoff like all these other companies...i'll be glad when these "we grew too fast" layoffs move to a different industry. layoffs were lightweight fun the past ~5 years because of how fast you could find a new job (multiple offers), it was a great way to stack money, now i'm assuming most people, besides laid off engineers, are going to need every dollar of their 3-4 mont severance

These layoffs are accelerating but I feel pretty good in my function and company. We’re actually drowning in work but I think a passive job search might make sense.

I’m just happiest for my sister, just got an offer with a Series D startup after a few months out of a job. Left MBB consulting without a new offer in hand because she felt MBB + Wharton UG was good enough to find a new role….took her much longer than expected.

Vacation is one thing but pregnant folk shouldn’t get laid off. This is why you do you always. Companies say thry care but thry don’t so when they were crying about not being able to find people or people quiet quitting I think back to shyt like this.

Good lord if this is not the truth. They are great if something is Step 1.) do this . Step 2.) Do this.

But when its time to do something that does not have a clear path. It becomes frustrating!! working with them. I've only worked with 2 out of 10's of them that could use critical thinking.

Its funny though because I can't remember where I heard or read it. But somebody said if the offshore contractors were great, they wouldn't be offshore contractors. They would have a job where they work doing their time zone/working for a company in their country. Of course that's not always the case butt that line always stuck with me..

Result of companies being too fukking cheap then being too proud to switch course until it’s too late.

Tech is spooky as fukk right now. Overhired during pandemic and now has to cut. It’s going to be a tough 2023. We already had a reduction. Let’s see if there’s more. These yankee companies tend to give shyt severance too.

We’ve already had more layoffs than the dot com bust. It’s not slowing down soon. Look into Ecom, options trading, and credit repair to supplement your income.
