My former company had 8 different leaders in 6.5 years. Within my 2.5 yrs there I saw 3 different leaders. Place was a mess.

This is a name in the financial world I'm at which was shocking to me seeing the turnover. Then I learned that all LOBs aren't created equal. There's a reason why people quit the role.

Update: I’m going full steam ahead with this role. Had a “soft” interview with the HM and a few other people on the team. Signs all look pretty positive so far. Will do some more soft interviews with other folks from the team before formally applying.

On one hand I do kinda feel for the manager that brought me in, he’s a good dude and really looked out for me and if I get this position, that would be two departures in the span of a month, but I’m being very honest with myself here, this role was always a stepping stone position for me. It was my foot in the door to payments/fintech. No need to turn a stepping stone into a landing pad.

At the end of the day, this is Corporate America. If you dropped dead today they’d have a job posting for your backfill before your body was put 6ft deep. A bit morbid but that’s the truth.

Yo...I've been considering fintech as a career path. Would getting a Data Analytics cert be the path?

Depends on what you want to do within it. Having a solid D&A background will definitely help in some of the more technical roles within the space, but to be honest, it's a broad industry. You can get in from many different angles.

My manager gave me a little project that required some Qlik scripting. Took about 4 hours, but I was able to get a solution. The first 3 hours I kept trying different code, but it wasn't working so I was gettng frustrated. Went outside to clear my head and started really thinking about what I needed to accomplish. Came back and solved it in 15 minutes. I was so excited!

This is one of those jobs where you have to put all personal breaks and appointments on your calendar because they will schedule a meeting on your ass!!

fukk that. Is it remote? Do you feel like it’s micromanaging?

Nah meetings about new projects. They appear to have a lot in the pipeline which is why the one director went with the contractors. I don't know the full story, but seems like they sold the company on Qlik and the dude they hired left shortly after. My work load has ramped up tremendously, but I'm not mad about it though. Just making sure to schedule the breaks and time I need so I won't feel overwhelmed all day.

:blessed: Afternoon meeting cancelled. Just this one at 4pm and that’s just a data discussion. Wish I had my car because I’d definitely hit the streets today.

Japan eyes 6G lead with global standards backed by Toyota, others

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor, NEC and other Japanese companies will join a government-backed group to propose technological requirements for sixth-generation wireless communications, Nikkei has learned, aiming to gain an early edge in development.

Expected to debut in the 2030s, 6G is envisioned as more than 10 times faster than the fifth-generation wireless in use now, enabling services like fully automated driving and remote surgery that require rapid, high-volume data transmission with minimal lag.

The technical proposal to be released soon by the Beyond 5G Promotion Consortium could be the first of its kind. The group includes Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as academic institutions and companies like Panasonic that are expected to use 6G technology.

Seizing the initiative at this stage signals a strong competitive position for Japan, as setting specific benchmarks is difficult without research and development to provide a basis for the figures.

The draft will include specific requirements for individual fields and applications. The consortium will call for common targets to be met by companies worldwide to guarantee that 6G communications are secure and reliable.

With self-driving cars, disruptions in wireless communications could lead to accidents. The proposal looks to set goals for autonomous-driving technology of limiting lag to about 1 millisecond -- less than one-tenth the latency of 5G -- and error rates to no more than 1 per million.

In medicine, data speeds in the tens of gigabits per second -- more than 10 times what 5G provides -- will be sought as a prerequisite for remote surgery. Entertainment applications such as virtual "metaverses" are seen requiring networks that can handle tens to hundreds of gigabits of data per second at peak times.

The Japanese proposal will be submitted to a June meeting of a working group within the International Telecommunication Union, a United Nations agency. The working group plans to establish technical requirements for 6G networks by June 2023, and will use these as a base to hash out specifications for particular applications.

Did another round of "soft" interviews with the team. Looking like I'm one of the stronger candidates in the pool. My company policy is to inform your manager before you start applying. Was meant to do so with my manager (well my former manager who hired me) today, but his schedule got busy.

I've done my time with this team but I don't think this is a long-term fit for me due to the nature of the work. Got like 3 more "soft" interviews next week before formal interviews. God willing, if all goes well I could be looking at an offer in the next 2 weeks, with the goal to transition in the following 2-3 weeks after that. Perfect timeline for the summer.
