its been 2 years since this WFH life has been enforced upon me...what a ride it has been

Took me a year of WFH before I realized I needed to be mentally challenged at work. I was only working like 2-3 hours a day and chilling, making a decent living and thinking I would just coast for a few years.

Being able to interview for jobs remotely was dope as hell, and now that I'm full-time WFH (my choice) I'm never going back to daily commute.

ive had back to back to projects so the mentally stimulating part is taking care of it..i just want that promotion and another significant raise in salary lol

Started a 10 day Python bootcamp through my job. Hopefully I'm able to do beginner level work by the end.

First day went well. Laid down the foundation. Have homework to do which is simple itself.

Interviewing for a Sales Engineer role. Got past the first round.

I'm trying to decide if it's a path I want to go. Getting out of customer facing ops into more of a technical role where you do proof of concepts, travel, not do the hardcore tech but leverage your soft skills. It may increase the amount I make and the company expressed interest for me to interview for two roles.

Interviewed for a very, very well known company and I may decline the job offer if it's presented. The job as described is much different than what was written, the person who I interviewed with just a week ago forgot who I was because it wasn't on her calendar. The kicker is that I'd be working for her. It's fully remote and the pay is looking like 125k at minimum, but I'd be a one stop shop with no teammates to assist.

Heard back. Didn't get it. It was Amazon.

Finally finished our company's Comp planning (merit, bonus, equity grants) for the year, and rolled the comps letter out. Been working crazy hours since basically Thanksgiving.

One of the best pieces of advice I got from my mentor was to always be talking/interviewing with people. Sometimes opportunities pop up that you didn’t expect.

I was planning to transition into a new role at my company by mid/late summer. Something more biz dev focused and market leaning. I’ve started setting up a few informational interviews with a few teams I’m interested in just to start getting my name out there.

Sent a teams invite out to the VP at Department XYZ a few days ago and he accepted. FFwd to today and he pings me asking if I just wanted to chat or if I’m interested in a role. I told him a bit of both.

Dude said “Great, we have two open roles on our team so we should accelerate these convos were having”. Now I’ll be “soft interviewing” with two other folks on his team.

If all goes well I could be in a new role by the end of the month (with more $$ as well) and in a better located office.

EDIT: It seems like my team has a lot of respect in the firm for being very data intense, technically challenging and rigorous. So it’s a good place to get experience and go, but not necessarily to stay long term (slow promotions, can be kind of siloed/one dimensional in scope).

I found out on Friday my job wanted the whole Sales department back in the office in the fall of 2020 because supposedly they were having a difficult time tracking the productivity of the Sales employees.
