I got an email about the Fed roles I applied for saying the applications moved to "accepted" status, so that's promising. My Friend also told me to keep looking over the next couple weeks because more should be coming. It seems they want some analytic folks as many of the assessment questions were asking about analyzing data, reviewing policy and providing solutions. I hope to land something by mid June, get bill deferments for June, July and August, stack and come back strong for September.

My alma mater just reached out to me via LinkedIn to apply for their EMBA program. I took the GRE a while back and then kind of dropped it hurricane hit and was having Convos with an admissions officer. I would have to really look at my career path and see if it makes sense but for now it doesn’t. I have some business ideas that I’d love to bounce off some grads of law and bschool but I don’t really see the value or a track for me to do it myself. :leostare:

Where you're at, maybe.
I've been interviewing for Cybersecurity jobs since early January and salaries haven't budged. Right now for a senior cyber role you'll only get 100K here in the South.

But in previous years I could count on salaries going up 10% every year. I could switch jobs every other year and get a hefty pay increase but not anymore. Salaries have topped out for senior Cybersecurity pros and aren't budging.

If you're just starting out you can probably make more than a regular systems administrator. But you'll be expected to do the job of 3 people because every company is shorthanded and refuses to increase head count.

I'm not in the states. Over here the demand is huge and I've been monitoring the salaries for cyber security for the last few years.

As you know, 'cyber security' (nothing in IT for that matter) isn't one dimensional anyway and I plan to do contracting for the next few years. During that time I'll still be building my knowledge and skillset and become even more multifaceted and have a range of skills to fall back on in the event things don't work out....but there's no reason for it not to.

As for the actual workload, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. I've had many hectic days when I've worked sometimes for 15 hours straight juggling different assignments, working in three different cities in a DAY and have been doing oncall shift for YEARS now. It's only quiet at the moment cos of lockdown. I'm not looking to work evenings and weekends anymore. If it's Monday to Friday during working hours it won't be any worse than what already I'm used to.

I only switched to cybersecurity for the money. But if I'm not gonna be able to keep getting huge salary increases it's not worth it. I see other people in IT barely breaking a sweat. While I get dragged into dealing with everything under the guise of it being security related. And I'm tired of telling idiots to secure their shyt and them arguing with me.

Everything comes with some type of risk.

I'm just trying to make myself more in demand up to the point where potential employers are chasing ME and I have options. I look at it like a dude who wants to bag chicks. Invest in yourself, become your best version and they'll come flocking to you and then you can choose what you want rather than feeling like you have to settle.

I've seen people making a lot of money who came from no IT background at all, but decided to enroll in some courses, got their certificates and now they're eating good. Case in point:

Plus I got over 12 years IT experience, let alone someone who has barely touched a computer.

As long as I don't work any more evenings and weekends, I don't mind keeping busy. I get too restless when it's too quiet anyway that's why I'm using this time to get my shyt together.

Credit scores steadily approaching 800. If I keep a job and keep up with saving, I'll be in position to pick up the pieces when the pandemic is done shaking up the real estate market. I need to do some research on how to refinance an auto loan so I can get out from under this payment and free up some cash flow. My rainy day fund is taking a hit because of moving expenses, but it'll be around 3-4 months worth.

Just don't do anything in security operations because you could be looking at nights and weekends. Had interviews for two different types of Security Operations recently and they both required either nights or weekends.

Cybersecurity Engineers don't generally have to be oncall nor work crazy hours. That's the type of job you should shoot for.
