The minute I'm on call or they contact my personal cell is my 2 weeks notice . I didn't sign up for that shyt.
I thought you would be on call don't you set up environments for development? Do they break often?

The Kubernetes work I'm doing hasn't been slated for production yet, so nobody is really monitoring it. The development environments I deploy are only used by a handful of us, and really only during the day. The majority of issues pop up at the start of the day and I can resolve them before close of business. If not, there's always the next day . Eventually the Ops guys will be taking over so if I do my job right they'll have all the tools they need to remediate without me. Unfortunately our application is really temperamental so shyt goes sideways unexpectedly and in the worst ways, but we have people who are more knowledgeable about it than I am, so they'll be the first ones to have to troubleshoot.I thought you would be on call don't you set up environments for development? Ok, I'm just trying to see what my next move should be. Right now I'm in PC Support / Product Support and we stay having to call DBA's on off-hours when something breaks. If not them then it's the Systems Admin or the Network Admins. They get annoyed when we call and I get annoyed back having to call them about something that broke that shouldn't have. When I move up I want what you have. I want to put in my 8 or 12 hours and DO NOT call me after I leave there for the day on the weekends. The Kubernetes work I'm doing hasn't been slated for production yet, so nobody is really monitoring it. What is the name of the position? Was it a 24/7 operation? On my previous job I was part of a 1 week on-call rotation. We just rotated through everyone in IT Security except Managers. It sucked and one of the reasons I quit. At my current job I can still end up working after hours but it's rare and not mandatory.
The job title for that position was named Security Analyst. Most cybersecurity roles that don't have Engineer in the title are usually 24/7.Ok, I'm just trying to see what my next move should be. how far will $350K take you in LA tho? I heard making a million out there ain’t really shyt.We did it brehs.
Just signed an offer in LA for a senior engineer role at one of the big tech companies. Total compensation 350K
Momma we made it!
Five and a half years ago I got laid off from my first gig right out of college. I had to move back home with my parents and was unemployed for two years. Wasn't for lack of trying either. Was doing Uber 50 hours a week for $15/hr and started going to code meetups in the city to start learning Python. Finally after two years got a job offer and moved out to LA. Worked at a startup so was putting in 50-60 hours(sometimes more) at work each week, while studying for the GRE to go back to school and doing another 20 hours on the weekends with Uber to make ends meet. Stayed in a shytty shared room for a few months just to stay afloat.
Got arrested for assault . DA dropped the charges thank God. Initial prognosis was about a year in jail.
Got into Grad School
Left the startup for a new job
And just been grinding since then brehs.
I'm graduating with my Masters next month and I got this new gig. I'm just in disbelief mane
Let this be a lesson to any of y'all on the fence. You can do it too. Put in the work and grind and tech will take care of you.
