I know im late but wtf did that Stephen A smiley come from?

That and the new Jordan smiley. Like was there a poll for it? Just came out nowhere.

Side note: Company and even team culture is really important for career advancement. Here's a scenario I just saw play out.

A dude that sits next to me on our Corp Dev team recently got a promotion. From Senior Analyst to Program Manager. No increase in salary or responsibilities. Purely semantics, especially considering he was promoted from Analyst to Senior Analyst maybe 8 months ago and then the PM role like 5 months following. So 2 promotions in ~2.5 yrs.

He essentially told his Manager, "Look, I'm tryna get to a top ranked B-School in the next year and since I'm not working at target/feeder company so to speak (Amazons, BoA, Googles, McKinseys etc) I need to ensure my resume looks competitive on as far as career advancement".

Manager was like yep, let's make sure we get you working on the right projects to get you where you want.

Meanwhile I tell my manager in good faith I'm tryna go to Finance within the company to stretch my skill set and this dude goes tattling to HR and they block the move:francis:

Same company, different cultures.

I'm tryna get an in with USAA so I can get cheap insurance. I signed up but wasn't eligible for insurance and banking, so I'm trying to get my dad signed up and see if that will get me in. I want that done before the weekend is over so I can ditch Nationwide's sorry asses and save some damn money. When that's done, I might reload and go for this car again :youngsabo:. I didn't expect one to pop up so soon. I'm not telling my coworkers though this time because them fools shamelessly put that battery in my back, and I foolishly let them :snoop:. Back to the original plan of seeing if it's still available after a month. I worked out the numbers and feel better about making a down payment now, plus I know my max before it starts to eat into my base saving.

It’s official: All my bills can be paid with one paycheck :blessed: It’s a major milestone for me and a goal I’ve had since FOREVER...At least a decade.

Paid my aunt back her money and just one more person left. Savings looking bleak, but I’m consistently contributing each pay, but definitely need to be saving more. Once I pay my friend back though, I should be ever better.

Not trying to be rich, just comfortable at this point.

Honestly, l can already see my manager as the type to stiffle career progression. I sent him two certs that I want which I know the Amazons and the Google want, he says submit a business case and unfortunately I have no business case lol. The company pays for this shyt. I see people within the company with both certs.

My director, a black man. straight up told me do what's best for you, use the company like they want to use you. Make them pay for shyt. I am personally just going to pay for them out of pocket. The retrun of investments is going to be worth it. He says don't stay under this team too long and rotate to other opportunites but the vibe I get from my manager, he wants me within his team forever lol.

This is the sentiment at a lot of places. They know that if you get those certs you will be demanding more money/perks and if they say no, you'll find someone who will. Your director is absolutely right. The company will use you without a second thought so do the same. I would create a business case and if it still gets denied then I would pay out of pocket.

Can I have someone give me a brief overview of CCNA (or even Net+) , what sort of materials it involves, and how often they apply that knowledge day to day? I'm considering going over the stuff for a couple of networking certs because it might help in my area of focus. I don't think I'll be dikking around in Docker for too much longer and want to be ready when the time comes.
I thought I posted that in the IT thread :skip:. Nah, I'm trying to position myself right if I leave my current company but work on the same general technology. What I see my colleagues going doesn't seem transferable and I know I'm going to be doomed to that same fate if I'm not careful.

CCNA and Network+ are introductory network certs. CCNA being more advanced of the two.

Due to the nature of your work (DevOps). You would get a better ROI if you got the RHCSA. That cert will cover the same networking topics and sys admin skills. If you really want to make yourself valuable in the market. Get the CKAD. The skills that cert requires should net you salaries close to 200k.

CKAD looks promising. I have a feeling I could walk in with my current knowledge and blow it away, but I should prepare anyway. I'll have to think about RHCSA.

How long did you study for breh? And what was your study materials? I’m probably gonna take mine before summer’s over. I copped an exam cram book from amazon about a week ago and I’ve been reading that some. Salute to you for getting yours

Thanks breh, one step closer to that real coli lifestyle. Six certs or better.....:myman:

I missed the passing score by 23 points the first time I took it so I didn’t need to study as much to make up the difference. But I just did practice exams on examcompass.com and anything I didn’t do good on I’d watch professor messer videos on YouTube. Sometimes I’d use flash cards or quizlet on my phone.

What I will say tho is the 901/902 is gonna be scrapped at the end of the month for the 1001/1002 so if you wanted to do the 901/902 you should do it ASAP. You can do it tho, definitely doable. :tu:
