Wherever whores go.....
:dahell: I don't understand WTF you're even saying. So I'm a repeat. 1080p, 1080i, 720p, & SD content look better on a 1080p TV than on a 4K TV of the same size.

720p & SD content look better on a 720p TV than on a 1080p TV of the same size.

SD content looks better on 480p plasma/LCD TV (They don't make em anymore) than on a 720p TV & especially a 1080p TV of the same size.

Also an IMAX film negative might be up to 18K, but when shown at legit IMAX theaters the IMAX film print is basically 8K.
None of this is correct :dead:

Reading up on AVS and it looks like the 900a is gonna end up being the best 1080p LCD ever since the generation is basically closed (panel tech going to 4k) and the next year (2014) is when the Smart Tv bloat become a priority and not panel quality.

Were there any other models to note in the 2013/2014 era? I'm trying to find the "last of the best" but you can't find 900a's anywhere and I might get stuck with getting a 800b since it's basically the most decent that's still kinda available at some spots.
The XBR HX950 and HX850 are arguably almost good as the W900A They have slightly better black levels but twice the input lag. I actually have a W900a and it's successor the W950B I ended up getting after giving up on getting a second W900A and if you don't mind that it's an IPS panel it's not a bad set. It being an IPS panel means the blacks are inferior but the viewing angles are excellent.

You can occasionally find a W900A on eBay but it's usually local pickup only.

I want to grab a TV since they are cheap this time of year

But it doesn't feel right paying that much money for something that'll be useless in 3 years

Don't buy that TV at Walmart or Sams Club. It's the 60Hz version not the 120Hz. It'll have an E at the end of the model number.

My samsung SUHD tv is the shyt! It upconverts amazingly. 1080p looks like 1440p or 4K. The colors are insane. Minimal lag and virtually no motion blur. I finally got a good 4K tv. I highley recommend this:

Samsung - 48" Class (47.6" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - Silver

The last of us remastered looks so, so, so good upconverted to 4K. The colors :noah:

1080p and 720p upconverted looks amazing as well. It looks so much better than my old 1080p samsung :wow:

I managed to sell a bunch of crap I didn't need anymore including my 55 inch LG TV and I'm looking into getting a 4K set just for shyts and giggles. The TV market is pretty pathetic. Sony is crap now, Panasonic is online order only, LG is crap, Sharp is crap and they're exiting the US market after this year (Panasonic and Sony should be following them shortly) sold their name to a Chinese company. All the American brands sold their names to the Chinese and bounced a long time ago. The only really valid choices are Vizio and Samsung. The Vizios are decent TVs but I use my TVs as PC monitors and they don't support 4:4:4 Chroma so they ain't the best monitors.

That's pushing me to Samsung If I even do it.
Samsung - 55" Class (54.6" Diag.) - LED - Curved - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - Silver
That's my best option and it's effin $2500 and it's a curved screen which I don't like. The next model up doesn't come in 55'' which is the size I want. All the crap I sold only netted me $1370 so I'd have to come out of pocket over a grand to get that TV. I don't know if I can do it. On a positive note that TV comes with a soundbar That cost $600 which I don't need and I can probably dump that on eBay for $450 or so after fees.

Of course that Samsung doesn't do anything over 60Hz with a PC plugged up while the Vizios do 120Hz. There's always a compromise to make.
