Copped a 4K Vizio. It's going back to the store tomorrow. Plugged up the GTX 980 to it on the proper HDMI and I don't see anything worth keeping this. It looks the same to me.

I hooked up my PC to my Samsung 4k suhd (non curved version) and 4k doesn't really look that much better than 1440p. I'm keeping my Samsung 4k, cuz 1080p up scaled looks really good for TV watching purposes and console gaming.

Samsung JS8500 Review (UN48JS8500, UN55JS8500, UN65JS8500)

That one, but I'm currently experiencing some auto motion plus problems with my xbox one connection. It might be worth checking out though and trying it out for yourself
I guess I should at least look at a console on this. I booted up Tomb Raider on the PC and my graphics card was only able to push it to an average 30 FPS @ 4K but I didn't notice any real difference between that and 1080p. I should probably trade up to a GTX 980 ti from the vanilla 980.

Yes. The best TV's as far as pic quality was Panasonic's VT and ZT series plasma's. Before that it was Pioneer Kuro's.. Anybody who's really into TVs would tell u this. Plasma gave u the best colors. Deepest blacks. And smoothest picture and motion.

Are those Panasonic plasmas still the best pic quality to this day?

The best Plasma yeah. The best TV depends on viewing conditions. In a dim controlled environment plasma is bets but in a bright lit room LCD is gonna look better. I've messed with plasma TVs and I couldn't stand how dim the pic looks and I game so I wasn't interested in image burn-in.

I ended up getting a different TV. It made no sense to get a 4K TV that doesn't have HDR and all the HDMI ports being 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 so I got a Samsung UN55JS9000. It cost a hell of a lot more than the Vizio but the pic is better to me. Played Tomb Raider again in 4K sat about 5-6 feet from the screen and it looked damn good. 4k has a level of detail you'd only appreciate at the closer distances. I guess I understand why people do SLI and all that now. My 980 could only get a 40ish FPS average with Tress FX turned off and a 30ish average with it on. No way is it getting close to 60 FPS alone.

No reason to own a 4k tv right now. Biggest gimmick
4K is as much of a gimmick as 1080p is. At this point if you're on the market for a TV and you want the best ones they're 4K TVs. This is the first generation of 4K TVs that were properly spec'd for 4K Blu-Rays with HDCP 2.2 and HDR.

The problem with 4K is diminishing returns. The closer you are the better you see it but sit far enough away and it loses it's effectiveness.

how is 4K a gimmick? It's a better resolution than 1080p just like that was to 720p.

3D is a gimmick 4K is the next step in TVs.
How many programs, services, devices support 4k?

The only knock against 4K is that the disc and player haven't hit the market yet but that happens this holiday season.

YouTube, Netflix, Amazon all stream in 4K. All GTX 900 cards do 4K @ 60Hz and any card with HDMI 1.4 can do it @30Hz. In a few years 4K will be the industry standard. Set prices are already at mass market prices and you can get big screen 4K TVs for under a grand.

It's not a necessity it's still optional because we're in transition from 1080p to 4K. In a few years 1080p will be the new 720p and 4K will be the new 1080p and 720p will be 480i/p status.
