Breh, there’s no way to argue that people were feeling hurt by the economy so they ran out to vote for the guy talking about increasing tariffs and canceling social economic programs.

That does not compute with reality.

I’m not letting you throw these people “ignorance” bail. They knew exactly who they were voting for and why, and it had NOTHING to do with the economy.

Before the election, I would have agreed with you. But after looking at the results, I think it’s a mix of both. when I look at how many Dem voters sat out this election, the number of minorities who shifted to Trump, Kamala getting a bigger share of the white vote, then racism/sexism as the sole cause becomes increasingly less likely.

Maybe we need to be charitable and take these voters at their word even if their perceptions of reality is wrong.

The economic anxiety stuff is not even rooted in fact or rationality, just feels. Did my dollar go further in 2019 than 2024? No. then let’s go back to Trump.

Another reason to hate Biden. He was literally too mentally gone to defend his economy and didn’t want to give that responsibility to Kamala.

If economic anxiety is the reason she lost, then ceding ground to Republicans on economy when you had a record setting stock market, lowest unemployment in decades, and rising wages was a grave error.

It used to drive me crazy when they just allowed the lie to spread that Trump’s economy was better. Eventually that lie became the truth. It’s the only argument Trump supporters offered.

Let's not be naive here and overstate these "economic anxiety" arguments.

Hillary was a woman who destroyed Trump in the debates and had much better policies that Trump (and the economy was actually good then) and she still lost. Kamala was a black woman who did the same and lost even worse. Biden (a white man) was able to beat Trump (at least before he became senile and unpopular).

Sometimes the simplest reason is the most honest one I'm extremely unconvinced that any economic messaging would've made a difference.

That's the thing. These voters don't know how tariffs and cutting social economic programs work. Did you see the videos that went viral of MAGA idiots not understanding how tariffs worked. They thought it would be a good thing and had to get corrected. There are millions of people like that. Most of the country dont know anything about economics which is why Trump can fake it til he make it.

I've long mentioned the other reason. I originally said Harris would lose because she is a minority woman. Im focused on the economic reasons right now.

Well, Biden was defending the numbers. The problem is that nobody cared about how good the numbers were because of inflation. Do you remember the polling that said like almost half the country thought we were in a recession? These people are stupid and don't know how the economy works. The one silver lining is the bench Dems have now is much deeper than it was in 2016 when Trump initially was elected. Hopefully Trump's policies don't immediately doom the planet by the time the '26 midterms come around.
