Everywhere...You never there.
colour issues and lack of scope aside...she is not that great of an actress too begin with.I believe that the racism Nina Simone encoutered had to be felt at some level and i dont believe Zoe has the range or insight to portray a dark skinned bi polar genius. That woman was so layered, from the anger and broken dreams to the hyper sexuality and her time in europe when the US shytted on her for being too pro black(she was singing kill whitey songs at concerts). She is the blueprint for a lot of female singers with a social agenda.

How about the fact that Nina's dark skin, broad nose and nappy hair played a significant role in her life and music. This is not like J-Lo and Selena, Denzel and Malcolm X, Laurence Fishbourne and Ike Turner, Angela Bassett and Tina Turner. All the previously mentioned were criticised when casted but their acting is what gave them props.

Nina's nose, skin and hair were things she fought to display as beautiful and to use prostetics is an insult, making Zoe into a minstrel clown is disgusting. There are plenty of beautiful, dark skin, broad nosed, kinky haired women with talent. Nina's family didnt even sign off on this mess. It's Lifetime status, i.e. :trash:.

It's not the same. Because Nina's features are an important aspect of her life and this movie is about her life.

these.

Wow. That's so uncalled for. Shameful.

the tweets on both sides were too much.

this is such a nuanced discussion, which needs to occur. Ultimately, as others have said, this was miscast.

Or the Nigerian who played MLK in Selma :sas2:
I was watching news one now and the young lady on the panel put it perfectly she used idris alba as an example when playing mandela he didn't literally change his appearance to play the role do yo think us black folk wouldn't be as angry if he wore extremely light makeup and changed the appearance of his nose may it be to make it slimmer or wider or if will smith didn't exactly what zoe is doing my man you know what it is also we're all black but we know depending on our skin tones shyt hits us differently you may be of darker complexion but you aren't a black women I'm on the lighter side of brown and I don't like her playing the role I have many reasons but the two strongest are first not accurately portraying a chocolate/black skin woman as pretty nina was pretty from her straighten wig days to her natural era but zoe as her with all that added shyt is not appealing you know how seeing how we are portrayed affects our children minds why not them see her for what she was a pretty chocolate black women that was strong and passionate because I have a feeling for financial reasons this going to be a pg-13 movie so young girls might be watching this not saying if it was rated R they wouldn't second my ideal of beauty are darkskin black women and these are the women I love and lust after and for 22 years shared everything with them that a man and woman can share and it may be a few but I know this shyt hurts them deep this shyt is long and with no punctuation but if you read it you I believe you were able to understand it

Yet you so called militants love Iron Man. I never hear anyone bring up how Iron Man literally put on Blackface in a movie to the point that he should be held accountable for it now and forever. Nope..when that new Iron Man movie comes out u all bow down.

This is a totally different thing. Just like how White Chicks is a totally different thing.

This has nothing to do with my post.

Some were saying only an AA woman should play Nina hence me bringing up MLK being played by a Nigerian.

Zoe has taino african hair though

this is a double edged sword because if zoe tried playing a native taino, even though she has that blood mixed with haitian,
it would be a problem. they would never label her native taino.
she's part lebanese too which lightens her up.

all of you can say shes "blakk" but truth enough her mom and dad arent more than 50% themselves

If she took a DNA test I'd bet good money she would come up 75% SSA.

If the family wasn't cool with this then the company never should've gone through with the movie, and Zoe deserves all of this because of the shyt she has said about black actresses.

Sudan/New Zealand.
Yall gotta stop misusing the term biracial.

Once we can agree. I don't understand the backlash against Zoe here. For example when Idris Elba played Nelson Mandela, Did people complain? because they look nothing alike, different feature, different skin complexion etc. Should they had a Xhosa even a Khoisan actor play Nelson Mandela perhaps.

Elba
