Well that deads the outrage.

Are you serious?

Lord, Zoe Saldana is a b rate actress.

Once we can agree. I don't understand the backlash against Zoe here. For example when Idris Elba played Nelson Mandela, Did people complain? because they look nothing alike, different feature, different skin complexion etc. Should they had a Xhosa even a Khoisan actor play Nelson Mandela perhaps.

Elba

Hollywood is about making money, they could care less for authenticity

But there should have been!!!

Idris was never Mandela to me so I never watched the film.. ..

We have to start expecting more from how movies are made about black history smh. .

Sudan/New Zealand.
Zoe does not look much different from people here, so yeah in parts of Africa, she is definitely recognizable. What else can she be? Spanish?

Then again maybe i have my biases as well, since i am a fan of Zoe and singers like Beyonce. So all of us have i own hidden biases and perspective.

Thats not why the fake militants are outraged.

I'm not militant but I'm outraged.

This is not as simple as Zoe Saldana is black, no damn duh!

The life of Nina Simone is about her skin tone, her dark black skin tone and her features which weren't (hell still aren't) considered conventionally attractive. It's about her own struggle with that and that of the country's.

People have the right to be outraged regarding the "whitewashing" of that aspect of her life and story.

There are many other actresses out there who could have done the film justice and given fit the bill. I'm not talking about an exact look a like either.

Someone pointed out the actress who plays "crazy eyes" on Orange is the New Black, Uzo Aduba. Great actress, more fitting look, and great name recognition.

This is a lazy retelling of Nina Simone's life and it's a shame.

And Malcolm, for example, didn't struggle with his color and features? I think she was miscast but some of yall are doing way too much.

Did Malcolm specify he did in the way Nina Simone did?

Your argument is trash.

A better one would be say if Saul Williams had a movie done about him and it was Will Smith who played him.

Could you imagine Will Smith singing "Black Stacy"?

The actor they chose to play Obama in the film about him and Michelle is much darker.

Happens all the time. Denzel as Malcolm X. Idris as Mandela.

A brown skinned person wearing a darker shade of brown foundation is NOT BLACKFACE.

Forest Whitaker and Kerry Washington both had darker foundation applied to them in The Last King of Scotland.
I didnt see the movie but it looks like blackface to me. It just looks bad and unnatural. Beyonce got blasted for doing the same thing in a photoshoot. Thandie Newton played an Igbo woman and to my knowledge didnt darken her skin.

How much do you know about Malcolm? And Malcolm wasn't a hypocrite when he finally embraced his Blackness.

So do you answer a question with a question to derail an argument?

You don't know much about Nina Simone.

Malcolm X never complained that his light skin held him back in the way Nina Simone spoke out about how her dark skin tone did.

Do I believe that Denzel was cast correctly. No, I don't. Should have been Terrence Howard but let's be real, he wasn't around back then and Hollywood is in the business of selling movies so they probably wouldn't have taken a chance on a lesser name that looked more like Malcolm at the time. Thankfully we now have a better variety of black male actors who can play leads to choose from. Hopefully in the future hollywood will stop believing that all black people look alike and are therefore interchangeable.

Now back to Nina Simone.

How much do you know about her besides the whole wench thing you seem to be hung up on?

:dead:

Self-hate via being a fair skinned Black man was the preface to becoming Malcolm X :heh:

Either be consistent when talking about Blackness and features or pipe down. All that other shyt is irrelevant.
