If it wasn't for nina's looks playing a role in her life, this casting wouldn't be soo bad. Then again, I wonder how many people complaining, are actually fans of her music and wanted to see a biopic of her life?
At first, but once the movie came out it didn't matter. She did the role justice, she looked more like Selena than Salma Hayek.Mexicans were pissed at J-Lo playing Selena.
Did Nina's estate sign off on making this movie or not?
Different situation, are you familiar with Nina Simone?black woman are the first ones to say "we are all black women and should appreciate black womanhood in every shade"
but when a mixed black woman becomes the face of black woman, that shyt goes out the window
if she had more African features.
I hate that biracial, mixed and light skinned are used interchangeably around here.
And "racial ambiguity"
I saw some dumb Twitter militant say narrow or hooked noses means you're racially ambiguous when a large portion of Africans have those features
Talking about being Latina is not saying you're not black. That's her culture. She claims black when convenient and Latina when convenient and mixed when convenient.
Only in America can half breeds and mongrels dictate who is black or white or anything. I know cacs don't let fukking troglodytes like Poitier tell them anything, but I have to sit here and listen to them debase the black man into nothingness.
"What is black? Everybody is black. Black people can look like anything" fakkits eat a dikk.
Agreed.
If we gonna be honest with ourselves, is it really any different than Will playing the Nigerian Doctor in Concussion or buddy in The Pursuit Of Happiness?
Lightskin brehs and brehettes playing darker skins people is rediculous in itself to me. The fact they had to cake on makeup for Zoe to even play Nina says enough. It's be the same with a darker skin person playing a lighskin dude. You want my man Michael K Williams from the Wire playing Obama?
I get that she probably thought it was a good movie, script, etc and that Nina would be a good person to portray but if you gotta cake up with makeup to play her, maybe you should have let someone else do it.
She's mixed--part PR and Dominican-- and is clearly in disturbing blackface so as to make her look actually black like Nina. It's no different than Robert Downey Jr and his blackface --- except no one is going to watch Zoe Saldana shyt on Nina Simones's memory. The joke is on you and her.
