I don't get the hate that she is getting. People are upset that she isn't dark enough? Get a grip.
Denzel Washington played Malcolm X. Where was the outrage over that? Denzel is much darker and looks nothing like him. You nikkas ain't got shyt to say about that though.
This.
Why not just let a white woman play Nina if it doesn't matter so much. The idea is to be immersed in the movie. If you know what the real Nina looks like, and you know what the real Zoe looks like...you won't get into the movie fully. Looks don't matter often when it comes to unknown protagonists, but when a movie is about someone as famous as Nina Simone, the actor should look like her. There are NO similar physical features that her and Zoe share. Shorty just looks like she fell in the mud and got a bad nose job.
I bet the movie will be about her falling in love with a white man. I'm willing to put some coli cash on that.
@ white america
Complete an utter bullshyt. When has Zoe never wanted to associate herself with "blackness"? She always said she was black. She never denied her blackness.I'm not seeing how a woman who doesn't even want to associate herself with "blackness" too much can or even begin to want to play this role.
What's ironic is that Saldana considers herself black. One of her most famous quotes, to Latina Magazine in the May 2006 issue is, "When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, "¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?" (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don't understand it, and it's the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, "Yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.") [They go,] "Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita." ("Oh no, you're just tanned'") I'm like, "No! Let's get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra." ("I am a black woman.")"
Denzel was also not the industry's lap dog and "nice negro" at the time of that movie.Denzel Washington played Malcolm X. Where was the outrage over that? Denzel is much darker and looks nothing like him. You nikkas ain't got shyt to say about that though.
No they wouldn't. No one said shyt when Denzel played Malcolm X.It's not difficult to pick an actor who looks & acts like someone. People would feel the same way if Will Smith was cast to play Martin Luther King Jr. People would be just as angry. Not because Will is a sell out, but because he looks nothing like him.
Bruh you are the ones that are always preaching black is black, no matter what. No matter the complexion, parentage etc. You guys claim Obama, Halle etc even though they have white parents.Denzel was also not the industry's lap dog and "nice negro" at the time of that movie.
Denzel was hand picked by a black man to tell the story of a black man in an era where the only black men who were realize recognized and respected on the screen were Him, Samuel L., and Wesley with a few others. He was at the top of his craft and one of the best black actors out. Zoe was picked by a white woman who has no intentions of even telling a truthful story and she's not even all that talented.
A thread from now YOU will be the one saying that Zoe isn't black, but you're in here caping for her to play a black women on the screen? Like others have said earlier, where does the line stop? You all won't be satisfied and fed up until Katy Perry is playing Aretha Franklin.
Bruh you are the ones that are always preaching black is black, no matter what. No matter the complexion, parentage etc. You guys claim Obama, Halle etc even though they have white parents.
I never said she denied her blackness. She was in Drumline (a black ass movie). I'm just sayin' she tries very hard to stay away from "black" issues/people currently. That quote you posted was from +5 years ago when she was using the black community to get a leg up in the acting world.Complete an utter bullshyt. When has Zoe never wanted to associate herself with "blackness"? She always said she was black. She never denied her blackness.
I never said she wasn't black. I'm saying that there are clearly better actors out, actors who are more in line with the purpose of Nina Simone's lifestyle than Zoe Saldana. Actors who would have been approved by her only lasting family member.Bruh you are the ones that are always preaching black is black, no matter what. No matter the complexion, parentage etc. You guys claim Obama, Halle etc even though they have white parents.
So you're fine with non-blacks (under your terms) playing people who are black, correct? I bet you can't wait to see Ryan Reynolds starring as the next MalcolmX huh?you right about champ, dude claim them bi-racials as black
but i dont

I understand they are bi-racial (there's no American born black person who is 100% black in the first place), but they are socially black
don't start them mental gymnastics, bruh.
socially black? i guess, so. lord knows if whites had their way. bi-racials would be the new blacks, and real blacks would be non-existent.
