Lil Kim a redbone?
Before she bleached her skin, she was the same color as Naturi. Lil Kim is naturally dark skinned. Naturi portrayed 90s Lil Kim very accurately.
But black is black. It shouldnt matter that she is light skinned and is a mulatto. She has African ancestry. Thats the only thing that matters right? All in all, you Negros are insecure. The funny thing is you are the same people that want mixed people to claim black, but then in the same sentence you want them to be "second class citizens" among the black community and take a backseat when it comes to having prominent roles in society.I never said she denied her blackness. She was in Drumline (a black ass movie). I'm just sayin' she tries very hard to stay away from "black" issues/people currently. That quote you posted was from +5 years ago when she was using the black community to get a leg up in the acting world.
She's so far gone now, I wouldn't use that quote to reference her current character. Even Kerry Washington isn't as bad as her. It makes no sense to have her playing that role/for her to want to play that role.
Like, I can't appreciate obvious "c00ns" taking important acting jobs for roles/people they don't really care about outside of a check.
I never said she wasn't black. I'm saying that there are clearly better actors out, actors who are more in line with the purpose of Nina Simone's lifestyle than Zoe Saldana. Actors who would have been approved by her only lasting family member.
- Chick from 3LW who played Lil Kim
- Kimberly Elise
- Viola Davis
- Girl from Pariah
- More than I don't know anything about
Like, you're trying to step in here and act like it's cool with you for her to play a black woman, but one side of you clearly doesn't think she's black (which means you think it's fine for those who are not black to play black characters, black face and all) Pick which side you're going to troll on and stick to it.
Yes. She's black. But I don't like that the industry tries to paint all black people as 1 shade. All white people aren't the same shade/a monolith of blonde hair, pale skin, and blue eyes. Why do black people have to be? Makes no sense.
So you're fine with non-blacks (under your terms) playing people who are black, correct? I bet you can't wait to see Ryan Reynolds starring as the next MalcolmX huh?
I understand they are bi-racial (there's no American born black person who is 100% black in the first place), but they are socially black
They know that, but they love the one drop rule. They want mixed people to be grouped in with them so that they can increase their overall numbers and be able to claim their accomplishments. They want to be able to claim the Obama's, the Beyonce's, the Blake Griffin's, the Halle's etc. That one drop rule has got to go. Its purpose was to protect white purity and white rights. Doesn't make sense to keep it in 2012.

You cant have it both ways. Either she is black or she isnt. All this she isnt black enough talk shouldnt exist period if you truly go by the one drop rule.

Just answer the question. I notice you negros like to skip around when you're wrong. You're okay with all non-blacks (by your standards) playing dress up and black face and playing the roles of black revolutionary leaders correct? Brad Pitt as MLK, you wanna see and support that right?
The way we view race is a social construct. People aren't walking around with genetic test results on them, so I don't know what else you could be basing your ideas of race on besides looks. And the concept of race also changes as you move to different social environments/countries. So yes, it's a social thing.
people skip around your non-sense because you're implying shyt no one has posted. show me where i said im okay with non-blacks playing dreess up in black face? that's part of the reason this zoe shyt is stupid. there's no reason to hire a light skinned chick and paint her dark and give her a fake nose, all because they don't want to employ a real african america.
white people should play white people on film, bi-racials should play bi-racials, and blacks should play blacks. fukk is so hard to understand about this very simple concept?
Then wait and see how she plays Nina before you start criticizing her. She beat out several black actresses for that role for a reason. Unless you think you know more about acting than a fukking a Hollywood director.
I'm more against her playing the role because of social reasons rather than skin color, you don't seem to be understanding that. Limited comprehension abilities I'm guess? She can be the token black girl in any other movie. I don't care. shyt, she can even play in Dreamgirls 2 or something.
But Nina Simone? Of ALL the Biopics?
Like I said earlier, it's like Diggy Simmons playing Tupac. You goin' to see Wayne Brady play Malcolm X biopic?
Answer the question, She's not black by your standards, so why are you so adamant for non-blacks to play black revolutionary figures? If you read carefully, you'll see that I have no problem with her playing black roles. My issue is not her skin color/hair texture/etc. Are there better people for the roles though (in likeness AND talent)? fukk YEAH. You're the only one focused on that because you're to nimwitted to see anything past it.
Bullshyt. You get called a self hater or a c00n if say you aren't black.Ummm no one is forcing them to identify as Black. If that is what they want to do, why do you have an issue with it?
Her mother is mixed. Also Beyonce has two black parents (and her mother's parents were also black).
Then wait and see how she plays Nina before you start criticizing her. She beat out several black actresses for that role for a reason.
Well, so you agree with me then. She shouldn't play the role. Don't get why you tried to step into a discussion on the side of someone else's argument when you agreed with me anyway.
And not all biracial people look the same dumb ass. Not all black people look the same. Not all white people look the same. What don't you get about this? Again, people aren't walking around with genetic charts on their foreheads for you to read.
I agree. You are one of the few people on this site that don't follow that one drop rule bs.white people should play white people on film, bi-racials should play bi-racials, and blacks should play blacks. fukk is so hard to understand about this very simple concept?
