the best ones seem to revolve around the villains and usually end tragically @ the end where the sideshow kid was all "why crock? why?"

freeze and clayface were both tragic characters throughout the series run clayface slowly lost his humanity as matt hagen, freeze went through the same ordeal untill he was just a robotic walking head

I'm gonna go with Heart of Ice, Over The Edge and a very underrated episode that no one mentions, I Am The Night. Gordon gets shot, and Batman contemplates if he's making a difference at all. Dude is just weary,tired and seemingly broken. Great dialogue... And this is my favorite animated ANYTHING of all time. As a kid, this was beyond everything. Feat of Clay is up there tied with those 3 as well. But overall, there's a huge number of amazing episodes.

For me, that Clayface episode where he ended up stuck in the TV room and couldn't control his shape shifting. When he proceeded to destroy every TV in agony as Batman watched is still fresh in my mind.
