That was true years ago. But trucking especially compared to other industries? Their pay has not kept up with inflation at all. Companies are paying these dudes 0.40 a mile and acting like they are doing them a huge favor. If you're someone barely out of high school with no responsibilities and no household that's a perfect fit. You can tour the country...put a little money in your pocket and put some aside. If you've got a household?... That's OTR of course. Local jobs aren't bad many times. Sad thing is local wants you to have OTR experience. Pay some dues I guess. OTR is another area where you get some experience and head for other more lucrative areas of the business.I thought truckers made good money?
If you want over the road, find a small probably family owned operation with maybe 10 trucks. You'll be treated better and paid a fairer wage. Plus you'll help support their survival because the big dogs want them out of the picture for obvious reasons.
