It's a very, very risky job. They don't tell you that some of the sites you work at can go up in flames. Someone that posts on another forum I visit mentioned that he was on his off day when he heard that the site exploded and the people who were working it had literally disappeared. The have "man camps". They're facilities that the companies provides for workers. Depending on the company, lodging is free or the cost is similar to the price of a cheap hotel room.
