I did in college...Children of Bodom (that keyboard), Killswitch, War of Ages, and As I Lay Dying (first three albums) were my go-tos. Couldnt even understand what they were saying mostly...just dug the melodies. Esp. Bodom.

The metal fanbase is unfortunately mostly comprised of some of the most pathetic, self important, close minded RACIST cac fakkits on the planet. I despise most metal fans, and speaking honestly it's helped to keep me away from this music. You can't view a single metal video on youtube without seeing some anti-black cac-ery disguised as "discerning tastes" in the comments.

I feel you. I'm just sick of these basement dwelling cac fakkits belittling black music to extol (mostly terrible) metal. They don't even like the good stuff...most of the time, these pencil necked low testosterone virginal cac nerds will worship a band band like Arghosolent while having the NERVE to write off jazz, James Brown or Wu-Tang without even listening to it just because it ain't cac (or more specifically it's black). Some of the music is great, but the fanbase is full of fakkits and autistic cac misfits with personality disorders.

Miles Davis is a way better musician and songwriter than any metal cac, I don't care what anyone says.

Of course, some of those comments could be troll attempts. I REGULARLY tell Rush fans that DOA is a better canadian band than rush, when the talent gap between the two is immeasurable, and in Rush's favor. But, I honestly like DOA better (hardcore band, more my lane ... plus i hate rush and their fans are weird), so I enjoy fukking with the rush fanatics.

That said, I'm sure the majority of those comments are just by racist a$$holes whom enjoy the protection of the internet. All the more reason not to take them seriously.

That's true.

I also greatly prefer DOA to Rush. I think a lot of fans conflate technical ability with talent, and overlook songwriting, expression and innovation when evaluating a band which a group like DOA definitely has over Rush in my opinion.

Honestly your posts on this topic seem borderline trollish. Rush isn't even that technical of a band, especially not when compared to other bands in the genre, like King Crimson, Yes, Camel, and so on. Maybe progressive rock isn't for you.

Yeah, I hate progressive rock (I like King Crimson though ). I don't think complex structures necessarily constitutes great songwriting or expression, and that's the major discerning attribute that Rush brings to the table from a songwriting perspective imo (I've heard all of 2112 and Moving Pictures and a handful of songs). Just my opinion, I don't want to trash anyone's tastes or needlessly put down any band, do you. And I'm not trolling, I just wanted to get some things off my chest .
