all the nikkas on the radio constantly... the list would be shorter to list who's not.. here's a few

2 chains - 40 or damn near..... got a degree but how he sound when he rap... what he rap about? anything about a degree, going to school, or doing something smart on the streets?? nope

nicki - 30 or damn near... worried about her barbies, which are a bunch of young girls.... raps about fukking nikkas, how bad she is, how much money she got.... does she rap anything about women empowering themselves, educating themselves, or not being dependent on a man.... nope

drake/wayne - late 20s/early 30s... both rapping bout being thugs but been famous since 12.... rap about getting fukked up on all sorts of shyt, how they crew is so gutter, how many bytches they can fukk, how they killers and move dope and might have to catch bodies..... do they rap about anything, any normal 20-30 is doing.... nope

then we can just skip down to all the cookie cutter rappers on the radio...

and mind you it ain't just RAPPING.... its EVERYTHING

why you 40 and still sagging your tight jeans with a fitted and a bubble coat... nikka you 40, dress 40... nah you wanna dress young and hip

why you 40 doing back to school concerts? what kind of fans you think are showing up for that?

why you 30 and lying about your life? hiding that you got a woman and a baby... cause you don't want the young thots to stop fukking with you

like i said, it doesn't have to be black militant... it can just be good music for grown up folks

i don't think jay is chasing teens... he's talking art and tom ford and put away the jerseys and walking around in suits and shyt... kendrick makes radio songs but the song and lyrics don't come off as some teeny bopper dance record... j. cole ain't even old and making grown up music... joe buddens makes grown up music. call him emotional but he deals with real life issues. 3000 ain't making that kiddy shyt... lauren hill wasn't making that kiddy shyt...

shyt look at wiz and look at currency.... two "weed" rappers... one dancing around, dressing homo, dying his hair purple, doing college tours, chasing them kids dollars.... the other just making music, riding around in old schools, not dumbing it down

Exactly, talking about Barbies at 30 odd? And who you think that's getting marketed too? What's the marketing plan there? Obviously children. Good post.

Yeah, these young rappers and "show money" don't know shyt about saving and increasing their financial profolio. Just living for the moment and living beyond their means.

This is also the point, no financial responsibility, and priorities ALL fukked up which trickles down also. "It isn't how much you make, it's how much you save" and when it comes to people who have made millions this is true.

Problem is,most cats that follow these new rappers don't have any kind of discipline of any kind. I mean, only now do people realize that removing individuals like Chuck D out of the culture done monumental harm.

Everywhere...You never there.
Jay tried to do it and ya'll hated.

Kingdom Come wasn't the best but it wasn't THAT bad :ld:

One of my top 3 Jay albums. So unfairly hated on.

He finally took a risk after years of ho hum, borderline formulaic shyt and he gets panned. So hell yeah, if I were him I'd go right back to the "my drapes cost more than your house" shyt ... or whatever the fukk he said.

Its relevant but I bet everyone in here was thinking specific rappers today when Chuck D was talking about their old favorites :mjpls:

Low key, tho. :sas2:

Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, Birdman and all them cats in their late 30s-late 40s still popping bottles in the club and still talk about balling out like a early 20 something. Embarrassing.

:what:
Because that's their lifestyle for real, African. :mindblown:

You mad or nah? :usure:

Were you just as mad at the hair bands and metal bands for being older (many of them were born in early the early 60s and at their peaks were 29/30s y/o) and still trashing hotel rooms, fukkin' harlots, popping bottles and Jack and glorifying the chic junkie life? :patrice::mjpls::usure:

You've been working too hard man...

... just ... go punch the clock, my African. Come home, kiss ya wife and kids. Go to ya man cave, pop a cold one, watch some ESPN highlights. Be grateful, bro. :ld:

Me being mad? Nah,no jealously on this end, just that common sense is non existent. I know when I hit 40, best believe that majority of that shyt will be left behind.

Cool, cool. :salute:

If I could continue to still do it big at 40 (and not just poppin' bottles at Liv, but grand scale living), and still come home to a halfway functional family... damn right I'ma do it. Why the fukk not, African? And it's gonna be a lot of mad Africans, too. Glad you're not one of 'em. :heh:

Thing is, I don't blame these rappers

Nicki never wanted to be minaj. She didn't want to sell sex. She didnt want to be the black lady gaga. She didn't talk about barbies before.

What happens is you write the bars like normal. Hand in the song. Then the label exec is like.....

"Well numbers show that this demographic will buy the most albums and tickets. So we need you to cater to them. So what we've done is create this marketing scheme based on barbies, that will have all the little girls loving you. Put on these crazy clothes and do these voices so the media will take notice. And sell sex sex sex"

Then when they sell crazy, the artist gets a little control. Starts being the real person. Notice she doesn't do ANY of that anymore. And notice her sales because of that. And then the label is like "told you so. But you can't go back now. So goodbye"

There are billions involved. These labels ain't letting you take their money and wing it. You better adjust to that target audience and stat sheets nikka

that's their fanbase tho... there's a universal problem with rap... that problem is the 30 year old fan

who's making music that a 30 year old can relate to? about life? goals? women? jobs? family? etc... 1-2-3 rappers maybe? yet there's a whole entire, and bigger, amount of fans that are over 30... but they aren't getting music made for them... nah they gotta go "find" it or go underground

meanwhile there's a new fake ass rapper, lying about being 23 when he's 29, talking about fukking bytches, hitting the club and dumbing down his words and lyrics to retard level.... trying to compete with the REAL young rappers for a spot

i can't blame rappers... well i can.... but if you telling me "make real music for your age... but you gonna sell 10k copies" or "take this mustard beat, talk about the haters and hoes at the club, and you can sell 300k"

well i'm not sure i'd say fukk you, and try to make it on my own... it's gonna be 100 times harder to break in AND stay in, when the crowds stay the same age, but your content gets higher and higher
Thats my issue with these type of threads. It's just generalIzing. .no names are being said.

Sure if you think 30yr rappers should rap about family life, kids/mortgage etc thats fine. But I can name you just as many 28yr+ who aint dealing with those things. Not sure about your community but def mine.

So just because they dont rap about family life does not equate to them purposely dumbing down for teenagers.

Also now that I think about...what alot of nikkas grew up on effects what they rap about.

You think all them rappers from the 80's & 90' spitting that conscious/black power steeze was really bout that:francis:

They moreso rapped about it because its what they grew up on.

Rap the last 20+yrs has been centered mainly seeing clubs/hoes/hustle. So when thats what you hear its probably gone be hard to break that habbit:yeshrug:

Random test if you in ya crib, start spitting a freestyle. More than likely its gonna be centered around topics artists you listen to be on.

You right, the labels are even more to blame, but the artists have to take responsibility too, cause it's optional.

That's exactly what goes on, label pressure exploiting people. You see the type of artists they looking for they often put an "Eminem type"or a "Drake type" or whatever bullshyt is the fad/trend at the moment.

Back in the day when they commercialized Hip Hop there were less sellouts so they could only go so far with it, nowadays any punk will sell out in a second with no talent and the people will still buy it cause the years of conditioning the naive public has worked. Back in the day it wouldn't have been accepted or supported so to make money from Hip Hop they had to accept some shyt the way it is. Now they can sign any talentless puppet to happily prostitute themselves for paper while excluding the ones with substance and rebelliousness that doesn't suit their agenda. What you said about how it goes down is accurate.

People said mad names.

Also it's not about that, it's about deliberately dumbing down to an embarrassing level.

I've dropped names as have others.

But you're right. Not everyone is going through these things. I guess what we are saying is, where's the balance?

Radio dudes will tell you, radio is marketed to teens and women. Same with music. There's a statistical reason as to why your first rap single better be about women or clubbing 99% of the time.

So when we see who's the stars of this gen. And see 80% balling, fukking hoes, hitting the club type rappers. And 20 % of real situation rappers.... Well we gotta ask who is this for? Cause most nikkas ain't doing it. And most nikkas aren't hyping up the singles and rushing to buy records first week. That's women and kids

Again. They in it to make money. Do what you do. It's the better choice for the quick buck. But let's not act like these dudes don't purposely talk slang, talk dumb, and use easy hooks and verses to pull in that target audience

I think jay ruined rap with the "I'm not a rapper, I'm a hustler who knows how to rap"

Fact is, jay was lying lol. He was a rapper. He is a rapper. He takes pride in being a lyricist and the best rapper and wants the title of that and such

But it gave way to a legion of nikkas to say "man fukk this rap shyt. I'm here for money"

Turning this into a quick hustle for any idiot to do. Taking away any self worth cause you out here denying your own music. Saying being a rapper is basically wack, but it's cool if you was a hustler first and using it to get out

People have no pride in being the best. In gettig better. In writing that bar that gets the "woooooooooooo" sound from the crowd. In not selling out. In being a complete artist who can talk on all things

Now we get cookie cutter, "every song is a single" albums, that lack cohesion and substance. I'm all for a 20 song album with 5-7 radio joints. But this 20 song radio album shyt is for the birds. Literally
