People said mad names.

Also it's not about that, it's about deliberately dumbing down to an embarrassing level.

I've dropped names as have others.

But you're right. Not everyone is going through these things. I guess what we are saying is, where's the balance?

Radio dudes will tell you, radio is marketed to teens and women. Same with music. There's a statistical reason as to why your first rap single better be about women or clubbing 99% of the time.

So when we see who's the stars of this gen. And see 80% balling, fukking hoes, hitting the club type rappers. And 20 % of real situation rappers.... Well we gotta ask who is this for? Cause most nikkas ain't doing it. And most nikkas aren't hyping up the singles and rushing to buy records first week. That's women and kids

Again. They in it to make money. Do what you do. It's the better choice for the quick buck. But let's not act like these dudes don't purposely talk slang, talk dumb, and use easy hooks and verses to pull in that target audience
sounds like yall more upset about what radio/industry pushes. Because as I've stated previously nikkas are not going into the studio and saying let me dumb it down. Let me ask tho who are your fav rappers.

:sas2:

But there young boys trying to tell me Cube fell off after 93 because he got "old". Every time we brought up how adult/mature his content had gotten on his last 3 solo albums

Younger posters wanted to act like they either didn't see what we were saying or they didn't listen to his last 3 albums.

It's a struggle for mature artists period. Even the fans gravitate too what the 15 year olds are listening too...

We do take issue with what the radio pushes absolutely, but the artists too, that's the thing they are, partly because of the label pressure or they are hiring intellectually challenged buffoons/puppets in the first place.

GOATS or favourites?

Some are the same anyway..

But 2 Pac, KRS-One, K-Rino, Nas, Brother Ali, Chuck D, Kool Moe Dee, Rakim, Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Last Emperor, Guru, Common, Canibus, Wise Intelligent, Tragedy Khadafi, Lauryn Hill, Queen Latiah, Bahamadia etc may be mentioned in either 1 or both of the conversations.

Well.. Would've loved your insight

But I guess you just gave it.....

What was the video you quoted that I posted? It isn't loading for me. And that dude don't care about Hip Hop, his passion is skateboarding, you won't really see him too much in substantive debates about the culture. Normally just saying something negative/slick then sliding.

I think jay ruined rap with the "I'm not a rapper, I'm a hustler who knows how to rap"

Fact is, jay was lying lol. He was a rapper. He is a rapper. He takes pride in being a lyricist and the best rapper and wants the title of that and such

But it gave way to a legion of nikkas to say "man fukk this rap shyt. I'm here for money"

Turning this into a quick hustle for any idiot to do. Taking away any self worth cause you out here denying your own music. Saying being a rapper is basically wack, but it's cool if you was a hustler first and using it to get out

People have no pride in being the best. In gettig better. In writing that bar that gets the "woooooooooooo" sound from the crowd. In not selling out. In being a complete artist who can talk on all things

Now we get cookie cutter, "every song is a single" albums, that lack cohesion and substance. I'm all for a 20 song album with 5-7 radio joints. But this 20 song radio album shyt is for the birds. Literally

I see where you coming from. I agree that did matter, it like put stigma against just being a rapper lol. You right, Jay IS rapper, he may have not only been that but he was a rapper that cared about the craft, that's why he was so good. Exactly, and that's exactly how the skill, artistry and content that's to get dumbed dumb. You completely right...

It's the radio. It's definitely the labels. But yea I got a problem with college graduates who just blew up at 35, rapping about nonsense for 150 tracks a year. That's their choice. cause they were all making different music before the fame. Then they suddenly switched up and became abc 123 rappers

Fav. Too damn many to name fam. I'll tell you who I like NOW. Nipsey, Joey badass, j cole, Kendrick, currency has ALBUMS I've liked in the last year or so

We talking all time and we getting into biggie, jay, beans, wu, pac, mobb deep, dead prez, big pun, clipse, etc

Understand again. I have NO issue with a radio song. Or 5. But when you're entire catalog contains nothing but radio songs, but I know you can rap about other things..... It just comes off forced and dumb, cause you have other things in your life, that you refuse to talk about, ONLY to maximize more dollars by selling to the idiots who just want to "turn up" all the time

Again. Where's the artists making grown up music?? Those other genres have 18 year olds making grown up music. Have 50 year olds still touring off grown music. Yet rap says cater to the clubs and women and fukk your genre besides that

Lol, you obsessed with me at like nearly 40 years old lol. It's so sad lol, don't you have some burgers to grill or something? Lol. Consistently @ me or taking needless sly digs lol, when I haven't spoken about you or @ you for ages, you must be really upset and hurt, I tried to let shyt slide but you STAY on that negative shyt lol. Me? This is about Chuck D not me, I guess you "above" Chuck D too? Lol. I am consistent true, but if NO-ONE takes me seriously on this site (which I'm not concerned about either way) then why did so many people dap my posts in here? The truth is you don't like me, and a lot of trash negative sellouts don't like me, that's cool, I can live with that, I'd rather have the respect of Chuck D than dudes like you, IR and Backcrack lol.

The Ghetto of Oz
Nobody ever talks about the real issue

Hip Hop is approaching its adulthood at 40yrs old

it was spawned by kids for kids whose children are just about grown

Grown folks were never supposed to be the driving force behind kids rhyming in the park, breakdancing, making break beats, and tagging walls

The single reason why JayZ is still relevant is because he represents the grown folks..his music evolved.
Problem is grown folks (especially us) love to act like kids..

grown people aint meant to harlem shake and wutang

this hiphop thing divided in the 90s between old school, mainstream and underground

the lines are blurring again.. true old school 70's - late 80s is now officially dead

90s is the new old school

underground = the internet

and Mainstream is nothing of substance
outside of Jcole, K.Lamar, Drake, and whoever people want to put on this level
Wale, Meek etc

You seem to care an awful lot because you consistently @ or quote me or interacting with posts about me while I haven't been about you at all lol. Nah, I'm talking about what you been doing consistently since the last time, I didn't interact with you or about you in ANY way until you started again talking shyt about me lol. You can lie if you want but you know full well you been in other threads talking about me prior to this, several times, or are you going to lie about that too?, Lmao, yeah so a person who doesn't think about you, @ you or talk about you is obsessed with YOU lol. Doesn't even make sense. You clearly were hurt that you got exposed before and people still mention it to you today lol. I don't get why you so mad, this about Chuck D not your petty childishness.

"I don't care what any of y'all listen to, or what any rapper says.. whatsoever.."

This is a quote from you from this thread, you don't care what any rapper says? Why are you on a Hip Hop forum then? Lol. And you don't care or want to discuss what people listen to or anything like that either? So just why are you here and why are you so upset some people do wanna talk about music and have discussions? Why did you act bitter and negative when someone simply tagged you? It wasn't an insult, if you don't want to be tagged why are you a mod? You've done this before with @Iron Chin Wilder when he made a simple user enquiry, Cole Cash who called you out for not doing what you're supposed to and your negativity/bullshyt and @2meo I've seen you talking shyt about too. You are so arrogant, this isn't about you, just chill, low the negativity and just move on with your life, I've said to you several times, don't talk about me, I won't talk about you, it's very simple. There's no need for us to communicate at all, but don't try take slick sly shots at me consistently and expect me not to say something cause that isn't happening. I would suggest you move on and let us keep having the discussion, it's up to you either way, but it's pointless and a waste of time.

People should stop putting limitations upon Hip Hop, they don't do that in other genres. They specifically try to do it to Hip Hop because it is predominantly black culture. A bunch of older rock etc acts still make music and get respect. It's not about someone's age, it's about the music.
