@Brozay I know you said you were watching Justin Herbert throw to Keenan Allen recently.

(it was really 65 air yards)

That look similar?

Like I said, I watched a lot of Chargers and USC games this year. USC ran a lot of Herbert style plays for Caleb and dude flexed it.

Straight up the guy can make throws that only 3 other QB's around the league can right now: Mahomes, Josh Allen and Herbert. Not only the daggers either but all the touch passes. Insane arm talent.

:rudy:FIELDS CAN MAKE THAT THROW

I'm referring to last season. There were multiple teams who had QBs go down that would have offered more for Fields.

If the Bears had a clearer direction earlier, they should have traded Justin when he was on fire after those string of games before he got hurt is my point.
when they didnt know they had the #1 pick locked in? Could you imagine trading Justin while he was 1) coming off two of his best games, 2) injured

and we didnt even know what pick we had? thats just not being realistic now and unfair to put on Poles

After 4 games, the Bears looked fukking terrible and were headed towards having the 1st Pick themselves. Nobody would have blinked an eye seeing how trash this team looked and started the season if Poles pivoted and basically tanked.

They would have known they were getting a top 5 pick due to their own selection and whatever came back from Carolina.

They were 1-4 after 5 games with Justin looking great over Washington. That's when he could have been traded and most logical fans would have been fine with it.

The Yay

HE WASNT THE #1 PICK
BUT EVEN MAHOMMES SAT
BEHIND ALEX SMITH FOR A YR
AND IT HELPED.

eh different situations I think

Caleb is a nobrainer #1 pick and most touted QB prospect in years

Chiefs made the offs the year before and had a good team that was winning and needed a change in qb to go a tier higher. You could argue they had something to lose if they started Mahomes outright. Bears dont really, they have been a losing team for a while

I get your point tho, just feels like all the teams are doing this way. I wish my Niners did this with Trey Lance and woulda given him a real chance instead of keeping bum ass jimmy

:laff: :laff: I remember when I think one or two of you said Fields would net a 1st or 2nd rounder.

But congrats on upgrading yā€™all squad. Poles seems like he knows what heā€™s doing

The return kinda feels like poles trying to do right by fields. Or maybe everyone just not as high on Justin as we were. Quite a few teams went another route rather than take on fields. That says something. I knew this would be the results when I saw that happening.

people arenā€™t handling it well now knowing weā€™re getting Caleb Williams lol. that timeline isnā€™t realistic. imagine making that move and being stuck in a position where youā€™re contemplating having to draft JJ Mccarthy. not a realistic thing to call out in hindsight.

the timing of all this just sucked for Justin & the Bears but the outcomes are working well for both of them imo

It doesnā€™t sit right with me that Fields was made to be the scapegoat by so many while Flus kept his job. Did people catch amnesia with some of his decisions that directly caused the Bears to lose games? He was like the extreme opposite of Dan Campbell, philosophy-wise. Bears didnā€™t lose 10 games because of Fields. 7-10 is what most people predicted the Bears would be (I thought theyā€™d be better if Iā€™m being honest). Three games they definitely shouldā€™ve won (Denver, Detroit on the road, and Cleveland) was because of that conservative, playing not to lose BS, that bit them in the ass. Three games that wouldā€™ve made them a playoff team.

I HOPE for Calebā€™s sake that he does become that dude and that one of these QBs picked after him doesnā€™t become better (which history shows is usually the case). With all these weapons, Iā€™m expecting the Bears to have a winning record, rookie QB or not. Iā€™m also glad Justin went to a serious franchise, with a HOF QB in the QB room with him, and with a black head coach.

I donā€™t view Fields as a scapegoat and I donā€™t think thatā€™s how Poles views it. We just happened to get the opportunity to draft at #1 overall in a draft where there is a serious highly touted QB talent. Itā€™s widely agreed that he got a raw deal with his development in Chicago. I donā€™t think anyone questions that. He never had a fair shake.

I donā€™t understand the decision of keeping Flus tho. He shouldnā€™t be the guy being charged to develop a rookie franchise QB, itā€™s just not his skill set. Curious decision by Poles

Once it was clear the rest of the league didn't really view Fields as a starting QB option, the return was always going to be low
It's basically 1 year of a backup QB that can turn into a 4th rounder if he actually plays a little
I don't see how a single season of a backup QB is worth much more

I mean, when they started 0-4, it was plastered everywhere that the odds of making the playoffs were basically 0. It's not that unrealistic to tank after seeing how disappointing they started. We saw Poles execute a perfect tank job the previous season.
