The CDC just changed the numbers as of May 1st..back to 37,000 from the 71,000 claimed...:francis:

@IAMDetroit

It's because those stats are confirming what's reported by county records and news reports, and are roughly two weeks behind. The CDC still says there are over 65,000 reported deaths associated with Covid-19.

Yes, this is a DIFFERENT data set, dummy. :snoop:

Why these numbers are different
Provisional death counts may not match counts from other sources, such as media reports or numbers from county health departments. Our counts often track 1–2 weeks behind other data for a number of reasons: Death certificates take time to be completed. There are many steps involved in completing and submitting a death certificate. Waiting for test results can create additional delays. States report at different rates. Currently, 63% of all U.S. deaths are reported within 10 days of the date of death, but there is significant variation among jurisdictions. It takes extra time to code COVID-19 deaths. While 80% of deaths are electronically processed and coded by NCHS within minutes, most deaths from COVID-19 must be coded manually, which takes an average of 7 days. Other reporting systems use different definitions or methods for counting deaths.

And if you go to this link: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the U.S.

You'll see the CDC is still reporting 65,735 deaths.

as far as race, black people are proportionally dying of coronavirus at a higher rate. They're not the majority of cases of people dying.
White people took the lead in Michigan.

A confirmed case or death is defined by meeting confirmatory laboratory evidence for COVID-19.

A probable case or death is defined by one of the following:

  • Meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19
  • Meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence
  • Meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID19

Accuracy of Data

CDC does not know the exact number of COVID-19 illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, and? It's not that the reports are 30,000 deaths over the actual number, as you seem to think it is. It's that the number they've confirmed 1) is delayed and only goes up to April 25th, and 2) requires a more strenuous investigation than the confirmed and probable cases.

No CDC has 2 deaths codes for CV-19...it's called cooking the numbers. Presumptive is a guess which means anyone can die from something else, and they type it in as COVID. It's been known of them doing that...

It's a damn shame that some of you have it so good that you can chalk this virus and the death toll up to conspiracy theories and other bs.

I read this on reddit, and I absolutely agree that they should be allowing photojournalists in the ICUs and units re-dedicated to COVID-19 patients (with PPE, of course) to take photos of these people intubated and on ventilators. Even if there are plenty who will still deny it and protest, at least seeing some photos may make the not-so-stupid rethink their stance on the whole matter.

As far as the conflicting information out there, that's how it is in situations like this. Actually, that's how it is in any crisis situation. Mass shooting, pandemic, you name it--the details first start emerging and the wheat is slowly separated from the chaff.

Veteran nurses and pharmacists I know say how much this reminds them of the AIDS epidemic when it first hit. People were going into patients' rooms gowned up with face shields because they weren't even sure if it could be transmitted through the air at first. Now imagine how the deniers of that virus are doing, saying it was a hoax or I'm still not gonna protect myself versus the people who were overly careful even if they were wrong about some of the details of it :jbhmm:.

I'm not trying to bash anybody who has to work or is in an essential industry by any stretch--this isn't directed at them. But, if you have to go outside or handle business, please be mindful of everybody's health including your own. Wear a mask, wash your hands. Avoid the knuckleheads that are congregating in groups. Even if your state wasn't hit as hard, try to keep it that way.
