Paul Thurrott said that there won't be a requirment to start games, and that used games will be allowed.

Microsoft immediately disowned that loud mouthed clown.

And the only Microsoft documentation that everybody has and that started all the rumors is the one I posted. Nothing there even implies that a connection will be "required"

you trying too hard bruh.

Thurrott said NOTHING about a requirement to start games, he didn't say THERE WOULDN'T BE.... :birdman:

He quoted:
"1) Always-on connectivity is indeed part of the next Xbox, and it was interesting to see this guy confirm that unofficially."

Nothing to spin there Meachy. It's there.

Adam Orth is still employed by MS...he didn't get fired. :skip:

Superdae started this shyt by having the info. Kotaku and VGleaks have it as well. The part you are missing is that other devs have also substantiated the documentation off record to other major gaming outlets.

the only thing he confirmed as working offline are windows phones and windows 8 pcs. NOTHING about the new xbox.

Read for yourselves.

"Folks, the next Xbox is going to require an always-on Internet connection. I don’t know the specifics of what that means, but as I explained on this week’s What The Tech podcast, which was recorded on Friday instead of the usual Tuesday because of my travel earlier in this week, this piece of information had been communicated to me, along with some other relevant tidbits, in January. It’s true."

Now why would they require an online connection? Again, NOT OPTIONAL, but REQUIRE?

"Always on" does not mean "connection needed to start games"

Your ps3 is "always on" and microsoft already explained what they mean by "always on"
Durango will implement different power states so that it can always be powered on, but will draw minimal electricity when not in use,” the document reads. “The console will be ready instantly when users want to play, and will always maintain a network connection so that console software and games are always current. With this “Always On, Always Connected” design, users will quickly and easily enjoy their connected entertainment experiences, with no waiting for the console to restart or install games

It has nothing to do with needing a connection to play single player games.

Superdae kokatu and vgleaks all have the same document. They confirmed it as real.

Thurrott the supposed Microsoft insider, clearly believes the system won't require a connection to play single player games. He said so in that interview and plenty of other people who aren't "anonomous sources" have repeated this sentiment.

"Always on"

:ohhh: I don't know what the specifics mean.

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time—currently three minutes, if I remember correctly—the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

that's a whole lotta detail for a rumor.....:leostare:

And you're kididng yourself if you don't think these guys have legit sources. So you're saying Kotaku, Edge, and Eurogamer's resources and developer insiders are all lying right.... :laff:

The Next Xbox Will Require an Internet Connection To Start Games, Sources Say

The only rumor that stated that came from an anonymous email to kotaku. No other source has said or repeated this info. An anonomous email also said the durango will have two APUs why don't you believe that one?

In January, the hacker SuperDaE began sharing with me official development documents for the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox. Many of the dozens of pages of the Xbox/Durango documentation were full of programming code but the parts in plain English—the parts that, honestly, we could understand—said nothing about an online requirement. They were, however, crystal clear about the new system needing the new Kinect to operate: "Every Durango console ships with a Kinect sensor. A Kinect sensor must be attached and configured for the console to function."
That's the most complete and confirmed documentation that has been found. Yet it makes no mention of a connection being required. It says the kinect is required and confirms most other rumors about the durango, but not the "need online to play single player games" one. Why not? If Microsoft is doing this for publishers wouldn't they be promoting it and bragging about it to developers?

There are multiple sources that have confirmed the "always on" aspect including superdae Thurrott, etc. Why haven't any of them confirmed the "connection needed for single player games" part?

That said, a caution and a caveat: other sources familiar with the codenamed Durango console have told us that they are still unaware of any Microsoft plans regarding an online requirement

Why is it that some developers say they have heard nothing about this "requirement"?

Bmf fairytale land
Well if you don't believe the hype lookup Microsft Webtv product which was a settop box which required subscription and internet for the box to function, I remember M$ wanted Webtv to function games with cable interactive tv and make it a Media hub with internet browsering, Yes Webtv was built it did indeed use the dream but never became a game machine, Then Xbox was born it was all a full gaming console but had no media box abilitys, so 360 was built it did make part of the dream come alive with its Media and Internet abilitys inside a game machine. So M$ thought they dream of Webtv came be remade this time as the new Xbox 720 which is Webtv with interactive Cable and Media features and Windows 8 running all on the machine. It is a PC/Cable Box in a Game Machine.. but with the heart of what started it all like its father Webtv it needs a network and subscription to function. This is no rumor if u studyed the history of M$ u would know they always wanted to control your living n room not your kids bedrooms. Yes Webtv 720 and I knew this info way before thats why I been telling people Sony has this . Face it. Started from the bottom now we here. Dont believe me but I been in this game along time. U can get the Settop 720 if u want its features and games and deal with always using it if u have internet and when u lose subscription or internet just like webtv was the Box is useless to u .. but u can sell it to someome else. I have the info and im not bias but I will tell u facts M$ dream isnt a game machine its always been a Media Box. Always ... Get it? .... P.s sorry for bad typos im on my mobile device on vacation kudos
