As a fan, I'm interested to hear from y'all... if you were put in charge of an MCU X-men trilogy, how would you run things?

Me, personally?
1. Second Genesis. New X-men team recruited (Nightcrawler, Wolverine, Colossus, and Storm), X-men vs Stephen Lang and Sentinels to save the kidnapped OG X-men. Jean dies and resurrects as Phoenix in the end. Have flashbacks of the O5 as teenagers.

2. Lilandra is stranded on Earth and contacts Prof. X for help. Rogue is recruited. The X-men take on Magneto and his brotherhood to save the Earth from their doomsday device and recover stolen Shi'ar technology needed to sustain Lilandra's people. Phoenix wins the day at the end, saving both worlds. Jason Wyngarde is revealed to be spying on Jean.

3. Open in medias res with the X-men regrouping at Angel's New Mexico home. X-men vs Hellfire club, Phoenix goes bad thanks to Mastermind's mind meddling, Phoenix goes on a rampage, Lilandra wants blood, and the X-men end up fighting the Imperial Guard. They get overwhelmed, Jean sacrifices herself. Kitty Pryde shows up to the Mansion for the first time after the funeral in the very end...

Bonus: Re-create the opening shot of the animated series intro in live action (where you see them flying in on the jet) in at least one of the movies.

My original tl;dr post:
Me personally, I would start with the Second Genesis. Open with a flashback of the O5 as teenagers, and skip ahead a few years. Center the first movie around Prof. X/Cyclops' recruitment of Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Wolverine. Cyke trains them (right down to giving Wolverine the hands just to show him who's boss), and they are sent on a mission to rescue the OG X-men from Stephen Lang (rabid anti-mutant ex-govt scientist) and his sentinels. The final battle consists of a knock-down, drag-out brawl with both teams mowing down waves of Sentinels. Escaping from Lang's outer space research facility, Jean sacrifices herself by flying the shuttle (like in the comics) so that everyone else can escape, and resurrects as the Phoenix at the end. End the movie on a bittersweet note that Jean will be OK.

For the next one, introduce Lilandra. Start with Prof X's nightmares and premonitions of destruction, and introduce Lilandra as a stranded Shi'ar empress. Magneto has returned with his Brotherhood, and they stole her technology to fuel a doomsday device to destroy all humans (like in X1). Without that technology, Lilandra can't repair the M'krann Crystal either, meaning the destruction of both her empire and Earth. The X-men from the previous movie all return (Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcralwer, Colossus, and a recovered Jean) alongside with a couple of new recruits like Rogue (and maybe Gambit). The climax consists of a final showdown in the depths of Magneto's volcano base, where the X-men don't do so well against the villains until Jean's Phoenix powers re-awaken. With her Phoenix powers, she overwhelms Magneto and saves the day. His machine destroyed, Magneto swears vengeance and escapes to strike another day. Lilandra is able to recover her technology, and both worlds are saved. However, a mysterious figure known only as "Jason Wyngarde" is trailing the heroes, watching Jean's abilities with great interest....

Finally, Fate of the Phoenix starts in medias res, with the X-men showing up at Warren's New Mexico, badly battered and bruised after several run-ins with the Hellfire Club inbetween movies. They regroup and decide to investigate the Club itself, like in the comics. Jean is mindcontrolled by Mastermind and turned against the team. They manage to beat the Hellfire Club, but the damage is done-- Jean goes bad! She curbstomps the team, flies out into space, rampaging and destroying planets. The X-men calm her down in a rematch (with the help of Prof. X), but Lilandra returns and is out for blood. The final act of the movie climaxes with the X-men's showdown with Lilandra's Shi'ar imperial guard on the moon. The X-men fight valiantly, but are overwhelmed, and Jean ends up making the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the universe. Kitty Pryde shows up to the Mansion for the first time after the funeral in the very end...

Saw this over the weekend. This movie was good. I don't know what it will take to convince you comic nerds that you will never get a live action movie that stays 100% true to the comic. Movies are made for movie goers not die hard comic fans. I've been an X-Men fan since the 80's. I have the Claremont/John Byrne X-men issues. New takes on characters in movies don't bother me a bit. I love to see traditional characters re-imagined. I watched with no expectations cuz I kept hearing online how bad it was. It's disrespectful to say this was as bad as FF. FF was a whole category of garbage all it's own and they need to dead that franchise.

So that wasn't even JLaw the few times she turned blue? :skip: I was watching and I was like clearly this broad has facetime worked into her contract. RDJ must have one too because he stays popping his head out the Iron Man helmet lol. It was kinda wack tho cuz it went against the character they established on screen. I can see her using that form or another to move about in public, but not when she's just among the X-Men. She gonna have to work something out. If she gonna be a central character she gotta break bread or :camby:

I liked the Wolverine cameo even tho I'm sick of Hugh Jackman.

Thought they were gonna touch on Mystique / NightCrawler relationship at least a little. In the comics isn't he the son of her and Azazael? So in the movie this blue dude who looks like you and has the same powers as a dude u used to roll with doesn't ring any bells? And she came to that spot to save Kurt in the 1st place right? Why? :francis:

I didnt have an issue with Apocalypse's look or voice :yeshrug:

Professor X is a bit of a scumbag. Wiped Moiras memory for no reason, gives it back like its all good, knows Jean is wild powerful but tries to keep her in check....until he's getting his ass whipped. Then it's "JEAN!! CUT LOOSE!! RELEASE YOUR POWERS!!!" :damn:

This cat just unleashed the Phoenix force to save his own ass :martin:
