Finally done with this.

That part where ODB's manager Jared and RZA and Jared had no idea what RZA looked like disgusted me. That's the kind of shyt you hear about but when you see it, it hurts.

In hindsight if it wasn't for Nipsey Hussle, they woulda threw out that Once Upon A Time in Shaolin album and it woulda probably faded away like A Better Tomorrow, but we woulda never got this one album, 88 years, highest bidder bullshyt Clivaringz did.

I kinda regret making fun of U-God all these years. He's like Nate Dogg in a sense. You only wanted to hear him in doses. When it was his turn to showcase himself, we didn't care.

... nothing illustrates the lack of business savvy from nearly ALL of the members than that shyt as well as many of the members’ insistence that Divine not take a commission ...

But I bet them cacs taking a cut now, tho :usure:

Shyt kinda sad honestly ...

Also with Rae saying he hasn’t even seen some of their babies and then followed by Cap declaring he’s fukked up ... ugh ... shyt got real awkward .

Amid all the platitudes they kept saying ... I think a small measure of healing occurred but ... it’s evident for most all of them , that it’s strictly business now.

Usually how it goes ... even for many day 1s.

:manny:

Their legacy is firm tho .

The Divine shyt annoyed me. Without Divine doing shyt in the background them dudes wouldn't have been eating like they were. So man's can't get a small percentage? He posted to do all that shyt then give all the guap, then run back to them to get some kinda of handout :snoop: I woulda did the same shyt. Would went and kicked it on my boat and not talked to non of them nikkas.

And the Cap situation was maaaad awkward. :to:

This was great. I’m probably going to watch it again this week. The amount of footage from the early days was incredible. Some takeaways:

- Masta Killa kind of seems like an outsider, Cappadonna has always seemed like more of a member of the group than him
- The ODB part was depressing, I remember watching that VH1 doc when it came on and feeling terrible for him, you could see he was not well when he got out
- I just realized the GZA has kind of disappeared since Pro Tools. Where has he been?
- I really wonder how all of them are doing financially, I’m sure RZA and Meth are doing well but I wonder about the rest of them. I believe Cappa when he said he’s fukked up

Masta kIlla only got down with them through the Gza. So they know him the least. And Gza's been around. He does shows frequently. And I'm sure you know about Liquid science.

Sorry but explain the nipsey hussle mention?
When Nipsey Hussle was dropping Crenshaw for $100 and everyone questioned why so much, Nipsey's logic was that the music was art and that it didn't need to be restricted to whatever music stores charged. If he thought the album was worth $100 then that's what it was gonna be. Clivaringz seen how that worked and took that shyt to a new level of extreme

Instead, inspired by the success of Nipsey Hussle's $100 mixtape, Cilvaringz and RZA landed on the idea of treating Once Upon A Time In Shaolin as a priceless art object. "The music industry is in crisis," they explain on their website. "The intrinsic value of music has been reduced to zero. Contemporary art is worth millions by virtue of its exclusivity ... By adopting a 400 year old Renaissance-style approach to music, offering it as a commissioned commodity and allowing it to take a similar trajectory from creation to exhibition to sale ... we hope to inspire and intensify urgent debates about the future of music."

Wu-Tang Clan producing one copy of new album Once Upon A Time In Shaolin

In the article it even says he'd rather do it that way then drop the album normally and watch it die after a week.

My people stressed out, we seventy deep and starvin
Son couldn't walk through my yard past curfew
I rose from an era of terror where it was legal
to tote guns, get red and bust a nikka head
And if p*ssyhole for dead then p*ssyhole for DEAD
What the fukk was assault?
Never heard of this till nikkas started snitchin
I'm still stitchin motherfukkers up

In my head lies a thought 'pon cock, off safety
Shots fired, follow blood trail to the stairwell
Faced down he lay, sound rounds to his crown

I picked up this MC trade through the masters
I'm sharper than my carpentry blade for scuplting
Carving into mountains the faces of my eight classmates
That stomp through the streets of states with Protect Ya Neck tapes,
Wu-Tang T-shirts and bandanas
Snatch mics and snuff nikkas that jack the rappers

Masta Killa will never get his due while he's here :mjcry:

I was waiting for Power to show up, and he didn't disappoint. Managers was like "who are them? So we gotta split the pie 4 ways?":russ::russ::russ::russ:

Power, we I had 1 foot in/1 out, but I didn't know Divine was still so heavy in the streets during all of that time.

So Math is all in the background, but won't get to speak? He's right in the theater with the Clan.
He looked annoyed/bored

All in all this doc has some great stuff for wu fans and is a perfect intro piece for new fans to then go listen back.

But very little of it goes on about their true impact on music and the genre. Like i saw the nas hidden chambers vid and he said “noone even to this day has TOUCHED what they did”. I feel like that part was touched on for like 5 min and the nas line got cut.

Like what was the point of hav and nas interviewing for literally one sentence? I would have liked to know how their peers viewed them. I already know the nas mobb wu connection is pretty deep but id like to hear from other artists, both before and after to get by what their music really meant.

And ill never accept the rza fell off story. Ghost dog and the w are some of rzas best work.

U God is on Vlad right now...and one of comments quoted Method Man when he was arguing w/ them on The Show ("Look at the answers you give!").

Made me go back and watch the clip.

In hind site...It looks like the cats in Wu were REALLY jealous of Rza/Divine/Meth (for different reasons).

Egos got way too big...and they didnt like seeing certain people in the group making money or getting too much attention (Meth).

Finally watched the last ep...

... some takeaways ...

Rae upset that he fukked up a new pair of Timbs on the Iron Flag cover shoot :mjlol:

That’s a man who knows struggle ...

That whole Cilvaring era was bizarre and a waaaay too much time was spent on him and RZA

As far as Cilva’s 2M Clan album ... :snoop:
... nothing illustrates the lack of business savvy from nearly ALL of the members than that shyt as well as many of the members’ insistence that Divine not take a commission ...

But I bet them cacs taking a cut now, tho :usure:

Shyt kinda sad honestly ...

Glad Meth said what many of us said: the whole situation with the album made the Wu look ridiculous and it was a circus despite it reviving the brand ...

@Rev yeah I know Math kicks himself everyday for not initially claiming rights to that W logo ... shyt coulda given him GENERATIONAL money .

That’s another example of compromised business acumen...
Same thing happened with the designer of the Nike swoosh. You can never see the future. But they paid him/her some kind of restitution years later. Mathematics should have got the same.

It would be love if he gave Math restitution . But we both know that’s not gonna happen.

And regarding Cap ... :jbhmm:

... he say he fukked up, but he was the only one constantly blowing blunts that looked like at least an 8th or better per blunt ...

Now either he just gets thrown weed on some luv shyt or he’s buying it and/or selling it ... either way ... apparently that’s unaccounted for ... on some “ lemme hold five dollars” :gucci:

... when you prob got $30-40 worth of smokable green in your pocket . :mindblown:

Rza did not do him dirty. He was paid for his services. That's work for hire. Artists under Marvel don't get rights to the work they create while under contract. Math seemed like he didn't give a fukk in all the interviews I seen with him. He probably started to think about it more since people keep bringing it up.

Exactly, it was work-for-hire. Plus, he gets a small percentage in residuals.
