Nobody wanted a U-God album. But it's hard to tell him that. Especially after he did Black Shampoo. That shyt was the butt of jokes in highschool.
It was a hard sell but I iddn't think Golden Arms Redemption was that bad for the most part :manny:

Felt a bit sorry for Masta Killa. Outside of reuniting with his pops and finding out that he was related to Marvin Gaye and Nat Turner, he might as well have not been there. That calm but deadly rhyme style and demeanor is severely overlooked in a crew full of characters. His debut album should've gotten a shout because that shyt was great.

GZA looks and sounds every bit of 52 and that's fine. I'd love another album but I wouldn't be surprised if he never releases Dark Matter.

And is it me or does Meth seem like he's holding back a lot of pain? Damn near wanted to give that nikka a hug at times

I was waiting for Power to show up, and he didn't disappoint. Managers was like "who are them? So we gotta split the pie 4 ways?":russ::russ::russ::russ:

Power, we I had 1 foot in/1 out, but I didn't know Divine was still so heavy in the streets during all of that time.

So Math is all in the background, but won't get to speak? He's right in the theater with the Clan.
I had no idea Math created the logo. My God @ the amount of residuals he could’ve been getting from that had he properly trademarked it himself...or however that works.

That ODB @ Rocafella part was gross to watch. Dirt forcing his head to bop to that Lumidee beat was rough to see. Dame in some offices where the dry wall had patches of plaster n shyt. Jay was definitely gone by then.

And the “Protect Ya Neck” theme song of the doc was really cool. Looked it up and never knew this band El Michels Affair made two compilations of Wu instrumentals in that funk style - Enter the 37th Chamber (2012) and Return to the 37th Chamber (2017). Really cool.

Everywhere...You never there.
Finally watched the last ep...

... some takeaways ...

Rae upset that he fukked up a new pair of Timbs on the Iron Flag cover shoot :mjlol:

That’s a man who knows struggle ...

That whole Cilvaring era was bizarre and a waaaay too much time was spent on him and RZA

As far as Cilva’s 2M Clan album ... :snoop:
... nothing illustrates the lack of business savvy from nearly ALL of the members than that shyt as well as many of the members’ insistence that Divine not take a commission ...

But I bet them cacs taking a cut now, tho :usure:

Shyt kinda sad honestly ...

Glad Meth said what many of us said: the whole situation with the album made the Wu look ridiculous and it was a circus despite it reviving the brand ...

Also with Rae saying he hasn’t even seen some of their babies and then followed by Cap declaring he’s fukked up ... ugh ... shyt got real awkward .

Amid all the platitudes they kept saying ... I think a small measure of healing occurred but ... it’s evident for most all of them , that it’s strictly business now.

Usually how it goes ... even for many day 1s.

:manny:

Their legacy is firm tho .

@Rev yeah I know Math kicks himself everyday for not initially claiming rights to that W logo ... shyt coulda given him GENERATIONAL money .

That’s another example of compromised business acumen...

I know he is mad about that, he should have at least tried to get 50 percent ownership rights or something like that if it works that way because it's his logo and that shyt is one of the illest and most universal in hiphop.

RZA did him dirty if he has none of the rights to it.

@Zero the audacity of Ghost and Rae and nem ... :picard: ...

Says a lot that Divine even entrained continued discussions after that ... woulda been on some :gucci: and skated on they a$$... shows there was love there and a family vibe... and to be real , a notion from Divine that he could continue to eat off them .

That’s the thing ... and you’re really hitting on it ... outside of RZA , Divine and Power ... the rest expected to be empowered constantly (even to the financial demise of those 3) not understanding that despite it all , that trifecta approached shyt as a business despite the history they had . And that trifecta had to eat and wasn’t trying to take too many Ls in the name of empowering the other “ignorant” members (I don’t say that pejoratively either but they were ignorant )

It’s a lot we don’t know but for the first time i’ll say this doc exposed a lot of the members’ fundamental lack of understanding regarding business .

Rza did not do him dirty. He was paid for his services. That's work for hire. Artists under Marvel don't get rights to the work they create while under contract. Math seemed like he didn't give a fukk in all the interviews I seen with him. He probably started to think about it more since people keep bringing it up.

He gave that man 300 dollars :mjlol:

That’s the thing with business vs. personal ... it woulda been friendly and nice for RZA — after the shyt blew — to compensate Math more ... but business wise he couldn’t and shouldn’t do that because it opens the door for so much legal bullshyt ... tough call but any lawyer would advise to leave that shyt in the past .

Cold game ... it’s all about where your values lie and RZA clearly wasn’t/isn’t gonna even think about opening up that can of worms .

I think it was $400. I bet Math was happy either way. Obviously neither one of them knew how much it would blow up. Would it be nice if Rza gave him a little extra? Yes. But I won't slander Rza for that.

@UserNameless @mson not to defend them for not being more business savvy, but at the same time these guys were all in their early 20s, didn’t have the education and were super duper hood cats in the early-mid 90s when all of those rights were in discussion. So it’s tough to put that expectation on them.

Divine and Power were hustlers while RZA was the visionary with a bit of experience.

We see it all the time in the game unfortunately.

I don't think being savvy has anything to do with the logo situation. Let's say Math had the foresight and told Rza/Power he wanted royalties if it blew up. They could have turned him down and asked someone else.

This was great. I’m probably going to watch it again this week. The amount of footage from the early days was incredible. Some takeaways:

- Masta Killa kind of seems like an outsider, Cappadonna has always seemed like more of a member of the group than him
- The ODB part was depressing, I remember watching that VH1 doc when it came on and feeling terrible for him, you could see he was not well when he got out
- I just realized the GZA has kind of disappeared since Pro Tools. Where has he been?
- I really wonder how all of them are doing financially, I’m sure RZA and Meth are doing well but I wonder about the rest of them. I believe Cappa when he said he’s fukked up
