Wu-Tang Clan founding member U-God recently released his new memoir
RAW: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang Clan. In a new excerpt published in
Rolling Stone, the rapper criticizes Wu-Tang figurehead RZA for mismanaging the group, airing his frustrations with him over unequal show fees, use of the iconic “W” logo, control over the group’s creative process, and more. “Right now, it just looks like the Wu brothers are not on the same page, going at each other’s throats, missing shows, and all that. But, to me, it’s really years of BS catching up to RZA,” U-God writes. “See, he put his family in charge of shyt, and for years, we would go on the road but the money came up short.” Read the
full excerpt.
In 2016, U-God
filed a lawsuit against RZA and his brother, the group’s manager Mitchell “Divine” Diggs, alleging that he hadn’t seen royalties from the group’s music since 2010, among other financial concerns. However, his contention with RZA hasn’t stopped him from appearing alongside him for Wu-Tang Clan performances.
