So is marriage. :troll:

Especially to someone who wants to pick and choose which traditions best suit them. :childplease2:

Keeping/Hyphenating the maiden name is symbolic of a modern day, selfish crop of women.

What works for one may not work for the other :manny:

A lot of people dont care for the traditions most once held, and that is ok.

i still didn't get a clear answer if you have any legal rights on what name your children will have...conflicting answers from different people.

If a woman I want to marry wants to change her name, I don't care.
If she doesn't want to change her name, I don't care.

I gives no fukks for symbols.

As for conflicting answers from different people, that should be expected, yes? You ever found a group of people that all spoke and believed in unison? :usure:

Didn't know it was that big of a deal, if the dude doesn't care I don't see how that's disrespectful. Why does it matter anyways? Not like you're gonna be calling her by her last name. :heh:

I'm not against marriage at all but that's a pretty big deal to me. I know quite a few women who've hyphenated their names and they all try to rule their husbands in one way or another. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand but it's what I've observed. I would never marry a woman that wasn't willing to take my name. It sends up a red flag about trying to hold onto your past in my opinion. I don't think this will be an issue for me though because my woman will know where I stand on these types of issues beforehand.

If that's the case, you can't claim men lack commitment. Who would want to commit to someone who isn't fully (FULLY) committed to him?

I blame the last generation of bitter, ain't-shyt mothers for leading their daughters astray. Poor shepherds have led to a flock.

You get out what you put in.

i'm not talking about what people believe should be done. i'm talking about who has the last word on naming rights for children according to the law if both parents disagree.

couldn't find the law for the states or for canada. in this thread someone said it's the mother and someone else said both parents have equal rights (which i don't see how that could be applied if both disagree).

This is true. The bitter aint shyt mothers didnt lead their daughters astray (well, not all) on purpose. ANd if you blame them, you better blame the aint shy nyggas who walked out on their family leaving the mother to carry her load and his.

It's 2 fold. Cant blame one without the other. :yeshrug:

Nah, damn that. If somebody does me wrong, I'm not gonna spread my hate to my kids. That's reckless and irresponsible.

That's a choice.

at the end of the day, who really cares what other people do...it's all about what you choose for yourself. Some men are even taking their wive's name :manny:

one more reason not to get married i guess...

imagine talking about all these issues with your girl and she claims to have the same values as you on this issue, claims she would take your name if you got married, then you propose, get married, etc and then after everything is signed and sealed she "changes her mind" :troll:

lol that sounds like something the courts need to stay out of. Imagine going to court with your wife over what food you should be eating on a day-to-day basis? :heh:

I agree. However it is something I think many do without even knowing it unfortunately.

It wouldn't be if the institution of marriage wasn't on life support.

a successful marriage should have nothing to do with something so superficial as a name. so maybe the institution is failing because of things like people being willing to grant such a petty concept so much power as to make it a "deal breaker".
