With the PS5 shortage, and with more sony games coming to PC, am I better off just building a gaming rig

gpu and cpu would be his biggest cost.
can't imagine mobos, heatsinks, hdds, ssds have gone up a crazy amount

If you're not in a hurry to play their games, sure. You would get access to all the stuff that would skip PS5 too.

I mean ain’t the GPU shortage still bad or has things gotten better lately?

I think it's been getting better but it definitely ain't like pre-crypto, pre-covid. I remember reading about people buying prebuilt PCs just to take out the GPU because it was cheaper than buying a scalped card :mjtf:

I already had a gaming PC, but since Sony has been releasing a lot of its bigger games on PC I'm good on getting a PS5 for now. I def want one by FF7 Remake pt2
