I voted for Jamie easily. The problem with Will is that I think businessman Will fukks over actor Will a lot of times. We've heard all the stories about how he'll change scripts and stories to make movies more palatable and marketable. I think if he trusted directors and told the story needed it would force him to show more range which I think he is capable of.
This right here.

Will seems to want a certain degree of control, but I wish he could get with a director and project that could push him a little bit, but to where Will trusted the director enough to roll with it.

Will is definitely a better actor than people give him credit for, but like you said, his self-image and his business-sense get in the way of him at times. At this point in his career I wish he'd push himself a bit more as opposed to playing it safe most of the time.

I think both are great actors and Will is clearly a bigger movie star, but I think Jamie is a slightly better and more versatile actor. A good example is that Jamie can do well as a lead, supporting, or even a cameo player. Will pretty much has to be be the (usually) the #1 or (sometimes) the #2 lead slot in whatever project he's working on. Jamie can be pretty much anywhere on the list and steal the show.

I think Jamie is a more versatile and accomplished actor, but Will has the more memorable movies to me.

To put it another way, Will does what he’s known for better than Jamie. Will is similar to Denzel and Tom Cruise. They may lean to the side of one-trick ponies, but they’re really good/iconic at their one tricks (being themselves). They put a great touch of personal genuity in their roles. While Jamie can pretty much play any role and can take it to high potential, like Matt Damon.

So it comes down to respected versatile yet deep thespian vs iconic one-trick entertainer. Granted Will has strong acting feats and Jamie has some thing he does very well too (comedic roles), but more or less this is how I see the comparison.

Don’t insult Denzel like that. Roman J. Israel was a trash movie and Denzel was a completely different person in that.

Will has never done that and Cruz only did it for comedy.

Wasn’t an insult.

Actors who can play themselves like that in numerous roles tend to stand out and make memorable characters. It’s “acting naturally” while putting a personal and familiar twist on characters that tend to leave imprints on people. People still quoting Will Smith in Men In Black, Denzel in Training Day and Tom Cruise in Top Gun while directly associating their real life with those characters. If that’s not the definition of convincing, I don’t know what is.
