And that reason includes an iconic TV show, easily accessible music, a formulaic approach to movie selection and being seen as a 'good guy'. To act like it's solely down to Will's acting ability is goofy even by coli's standards

Arnold and Stallone were before my time but The Rock's movies are not that successful when you really look at the numbers, plus he does not carry movies by himself. His most successful movies were the Fast & Furious franchise movies and then the one-offs like Jumanji & Central Intelligence have Kevin Hart as well. Will was carrying movies by himself. I Am Legend he's damn near the only person in the movie like 50% of the movie. Will was doing $500m box office in his prime, carrying the movie by himself basically

Sounds like a great business man to me. Still a better actor than Jamie Foxx

I agree with most of the posts. Its Foxx and it really isn't close. Foxx is an exceptional talent, though he isn't the "draw" that Will Smith is. Will has limited range as an actor. He cries...he acts goofy...he tries to look serious...which looks like he's about to cry. That's about it. Foxx seems to be able to morph himself into whatever character is required....and convincingly. He's got "A-list" talent.....but C-list" backing. Will is the exact opposite.

Foxx's big issue is he doesn't weed out roles that well. But he is a great actor and can really do any role you put in front of him.

A good actor can still breath life into a bad movie or a generic character. Denzel does it all the time. People like to criticize Denzel for being himself on screen, but dude is always uniquely captivating in his performances whether or not the movie or role itself is great. It's easy to watch Denzel on screen and get lost into the moment of his scenes.

I didn't compare Foxx to Denzel. Denzel is an acting titan. Probably the best to ever do it.

Foxx isn't in that class.

I think my bigger point is Foxx needs to use his star power more to his advantage like the other big stars do to influence things. Thats what Will Smith and others have done. I feel Foxx don't do it enough and instead works within the confines.
