I remember when the Slap happen people were like "It's over Bad Boys 4 isn't going to come out". I laughed at that saying it was lies, here we are 2 years later and another Blockbuster "Bad Boys" is burning up the box office. Will Smith is back where he belongs, a #1 Summer Blockbuster. "Independence Day" and "Men In Black" may be bigger. But "Bad Boys" is the film that really got Will's Superstar Movie Career rolling. Low-Key, Martin's Movie career exploded too after that film though he was in movies before. Michael Bay the director career blew up after too and that was his 1st movie. "Bad Boys" has never flopped. It was a hit in the 90's, it was a hit in the 2000's, it was the biggest movie in the US in 2020 before the Pandemic. Now it's here to jumpstart the Summer Box Office after a few big flops.

"Furiosa" flopped because though "Fury Road" was a good movie, Furiosa character wasn't that big enough to do a spin off about. Plus they didn't bring Charlize Theron back and did a prequel. If it was a "Mad Max Fury Road" Sequel instead it may have done better. "Fall Guy" was iffy because TV Shows to Movies can be hit or miss. Everything can't be "Mission Impossible" as far as a TV Show being a successful film. "Planet of the Apes" and "Garfield" are both doing pretty good. You aren't seeing these Mega Numbers because movie going audiences habits have changed in the last 4 years since the Pandemic. But this was the perfect comeback film for Will. It sad "Emancipation" went straight to streaming because of the drama. I knew he would be fine but so many think pieces were saying "Audiences will reject Will Smith". Yeah Ok, One of the Biggest Stars in the last 30 years. The movie was fire too.

Chris Rock is somewhere feeling a type of way from seeing Will shining the way he currently is.

Chris himself knew that incident wouldn’t keep Will down for long. Will Smith is Hollywood royalty on a level that only two other black people have EVER achieved (Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington) and even Will is “above” them in terms of enduring popularity. He’s the most famous black actor who ever lived. And he’s got at least THREE franchises he could’ve fallen back on to remind people of his greatness, he just chose Bad Boys as one of those three.

It’s Bad Boys.. it was going to do well no matter what.

That's not what some people were saying

Anyway.... the estimates went up this morning. By the time the actuals come in it's gonna be close to $60M opening weekend in the U.S. alone... this will end up being highly profitable.

Will Smith as a vehicle for Summer blockbusters is back in a big way.

Bro Will literally won the Oscar the same night as the slap lol. The worse he was going to get was clowned on social media. I mean Will has been getting clowned for years but he’s still here. Will’s other movies can bomb but Bad Boys is a different animal :yeshrug:

I, for one, welcome our new space overlords.
When you win the genetic lottery like Will did. Tall, good looking dude with charisma, you get a lifetime of free passes for things that the average guy would not get away with.

If he had slapped Neil Patrick Harris or Jimmy Kimmel, it would have been over for him. But he slapped a guy who the average person finds hard to humanize. A guy who would never be a star if he wasn't an a very talented comedian.

It's engraved within our genetics to always look the other way when folks of Will's ilk mess up. If Lil Rel had slapped Chris, it'd be over for him.

I like Will Smith btw. People going to see Bad Boys is great because the guy has owned up to what he did wrong. But people now victim blaming Chris Rock and calling him all sorts of names is evident that some people don't get the same sympathy just for the way they look.
