Why were there so many serial killers in the 1970s-80s? What caused the decline in serial killers?

A lot of factors increase surveillance more advanced physchological Profiles and a more awareness of befriending strangers and identifying physcopatchic antisocial behavior also
Add the fact it's much easier to have someone committed to a mental institution than it was back in those days

Technology is the biggest factor. Too many cameras. These types are cowards and they can just stay in the house now and be misanthropes on the internet. But if we ever have a sustained blackout...

Video games keep them distracted and busy.

People aren't as naive compared to those back in the 70s & 80s.

Most serial killer victims more often than not were gullible/naive individuals who trusted a stranger for help, when you look back at some of these serial killers you'll notice most of them easily talked their victims into a trap by just offering a ride or even luring them somewhere.

People nowadays aren't so naive and gullible to just jump inside somebody's car when offered, which is also why potential/undercover serial killers of today have trouble getting victims because people gotten smarter over the decades.

People have cell phones, so they can call for help if the car breaks down, instead of getting in the brown van with the killer who was driving around looking for victims.

The weirdos have other means to entertain themselves nowadays, mainly in the form of video games and Internet forums.

came into post something like this, there is no more numb mindingly dull isolation or lack of means for extreme excitement.

I'd say technology. I'm in a good place in my life now so I don't mind saying this here, but, there's been a few times when I thought about murking some nikkas that did me wrong. Only reason I didn't go through with it is because of cameras and DNA. After watching the ID channel, people out here getting convicted over a strand of hair. All I will say is that things would be a lot different for me if I were born in the 30s or 40s.

Actually most serial killers target prostitutes and women law enforcement don't give a shyt about.

I.E. There's a serial killer active in Chicago targeting black women, guess why you haven't heard of it.

  1. They have outlets to express their frustrations
  2. Serial killing isn’t the “In” thing. Mass shootings have taken that spot.
  3. Societal changes. Most killers back then have severe issues sexually.Could be because of that free love hippy shyt that they were shut out on .Now most killers frustrations are racially based and from watching mindhunter one thing they always mentioned was that serial killers rarely crossed racial lines. Also ,those killer who had sexual identity issues and felt like outcasts would be more accepted today .
  4. People are more aware.

The right way, the wrong way and the Max Power way
All factors covered in this thread (minus the strange arguments).

Video games, MTV and porn.

All the serial killers are now busy inside doing bull shyt.

God don't let the internet and cable go out
....the murder toll gonna triple...:wow:

I like this theory.

A lot of would be killers are content, fapping away, posting on incel forums, *chan, Reddit, The Coli (:ninja2:), playing online shooters etc.

I was going to jokingly say porn and video games has pacified them... but now I genuinely believe that’s the reason for the drop. :ohhh:
