Why Was TLOU2 Hated?

Minorities used as a spring board to give an abysmal character something to do
Sending a pregnant woman into battle
Retcon a whole ending to give narration to an abysmal character
Changing a beloved character into something that makes absolutely no sense
Have said character go out on a quest for revenge, endangers all the people she loves/cares about, gets said characters killed or brutally fukked up and in the end doesn’t even go through with this whole revenge because of a flashback
Outside of Joel getting killed(which in retrospect if the writers actually knew how to fukking write, nobody would have had a problem with if it fukking made sense)
They deviated so far from what his character was in the first one
After being through all kinds of fukkery, he now trust strangers all of a sudden
Using LGBT+ as a shield for sorry writing
If you wanted to include this community, this story lacked nuance of telling a transgender story
It was very stereotypical and didn’t flesh out Lev at all
A black man used as a boogie man but we have no idea of why he ran the milita the way he did, why was their such a war between the seriphites
Why were the seriphites such religious nuts and psycho killers for no reason
And don’t say because of land because if this was suppose to be a depiction of the Gaza Strip
Neil failed horribly
A pregnant woman smoking weed
Rehashed skins, no new enemy types outside of two
A clunky Resident Evil rip off battle
An open world quest in Seattle then goes to a constrained,very linear game for the ending
If you are going to do a sandbox game portion, commit to the whole game being like this
Contrived dialogue
Tommy doing a 180 in his character archetype
Weird CW love triangles that were flat as shyt
Who cares who loves who
If you are going to write love stories
Give them more meat and gravitas not stereotypical Dawson's Creek plots
The only good about the game was the animation and the new features brought about for the impaired
The story of misery was way too on the nose and absolutely made no fukking sense
If the apocalypse kicked off tomorrow, nobody in their right mind would go on a hokey revenge story
nikka you just trying to survive the day and IF you were going to go on a revenge tour
You would plan, execute and actually kill the person at the end of your track
I don’t know how or why people think this game is so revolutionary because it’s not even close to the first game
It doesn’t grip you with narrative
Ancillary characters that are not fleshed out nor does anybody actually care about them
They are just there to push a loose narrative of revenge
Destroy two characters for what I don’t know
But the arguments par the course in this thread boil down to name calling and defending with no real viable evidence on why people like it
Subverting expectations has always been the defense for this shytty game

that “sending a pregnant women into battle” criticism is always dumb..she wasn’t, she was on her way to help as a medic and they were ambushed..a lot of that other shyt you said are dumb critiques too

The game is fantastic, but the game needed a couple of rewrites to nail the landing of the story is main problem. It tries to be Spec Ops the Line, but completely lacks the nuances and weight of it.

When looking back at it now... It possibly borrowed too much from Spec Ops Meta storytelling too a degree that it comes off as a copy cat inside of a revenge story.

Character logic can be downright awful where in the 1st game was so much grounded in survivalism. At times Last of Us becomes Walking Dead where characters made decisions to push a narrative than an organic decision.

Which brings me back to Spec Ops The Line... Everything felt organic with how the story was woven. Last of Us had amazing ideas for it's narrative, but the execution was simple poor and felt just forced. Structure of the narrative and pacing was terrible

It needed a rewrite and possibly a consultant to balance out Neil narrative decisions.

8/10 game. Fantastic gameplay. Disappointing story that had all these brilliant ideas, but couldn't convey it or execute it properly.

They lust after Wifus and care about how big video game characters t*ts are. So they can’t compute seeing a regular ass love story. Especially not a gay 1.

I guarantee fukkin guarantee everything they complain about happens in other games they played and loved lol. Just white daddy got to live in those or atleast went out like a G. Or the love story wasn’t nuanced and was ppl who just met yesterday but went on a grand adventure and are destined blah blah blah.

I used to hear this a lot, “joel would know better than to let people get the drop on him so easily. I don’t mind that he died but he should have went out like a bad ass”

Like this is how gamers want their stories. They want a 65 year old man to go down after killing a horde of zombies by himself or an entire militia of soldiers. Only then will that death have been earned and they can feel content in white daddy hero.

Facts. Medium has a long way to go, but the hate/unappreciation for this game shows me gamers dont even realize it.

these basement dwelling neckbeards think they are the directors of the game,
The developers are the directors and its their story, and the story is the world of TLOU is unforgiving, dark, and cruel
So Joel had to die, get over it, he aint winning any video game character awards he aint that deep
The story is a microcosm of the macrocosm that we live in RIGHT NOW

absolutely, the story is terrible based off Abby traveling across the country with a bunch of friends to kill a man that saved a 14 year old
she’s a grown ass woman she should’ve understood what her father attempted to do “take a child life without any consent”


Terrible, terrible take. It's an apocalypse. They've discovered the ONE in a BILLION. When it comes to the survival of MILLIONS, in EVERY scenario you can dream of, "ethics" will go out the window. Your idealism is absolutely adorable, but TLOU2's plot is a lot more realistic than your cream of wheat and pie in the sky fantasies on how an advanced species would respond when faced with slow, agonizing extinction.


Moreover, you take the script and flip it with your mother being the surgeon and a coli poster pulling the trigger in Joel's place. I'm sure you'll gather the facts and once you realize what went down, you'll shrug it off because,
