at people not realizing how country Chicago is. As already explained, virtually ever Black person in Chicago has family from Mississippi & Tennessee and vice-versa because of the Great Migration and Interstate 55. People go back and forth all the time. For example, Young Dolph was born in Chicago but was sent to Memphis when he was two. Go and look at the founders of Chicago gangs. Larry Hoover (GD), Jeff Fort (Black P Stones), David Barksdale (BD)? All born in Mississippi.
R. Kelly is a good example of somebody from Chicago that sounds like he's from Deep Down South.
Back to Crucial Conflict, the "Rodeo" was a gimmick based on the fact they're from the "Wild Westside" and they amped up the "country" gimmick. Keep in mind the basketball team is named the "Bulls" for a reason. Anything not from New York was already stereotyped as "country" and Crucial Conflict actually was. They had to stick out.
Check this 1997 BET Rap City skit where they have the 4 regions of the country (East Coast, West Cost, Midwest &Down South) meet "The Godfather." Peep the stereotypes of each region.

People from out west, their parents and grandparents migrated from the south....same as Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland along with other cities. A lot of new yawkers people came from the South. Raekwon folks from South Carolina, Chris Rock too. If you study history you'd see how all of this is possible
I never understood that shyt. I don't mean country as in southern, I mean actual country shyt.
nikkas was dressed up like hillbillies, they even had on ponchos and shyt. The logo was a fukking horse shoe.
They was obviously pushing a theme of being in the country while repping Chicago real hard at the same time. I just never understood it, especially when Do Or Die was out around the same time showing the opposite.

Im fully aware. Aframs everywhere outside the south have audible southern tinges with the exception of North Eastern Aframs because they came from areas with lighter drawls, that then faded away in more recent generations

youre not understanding whats being said.
Chicago black folks (especially those from the westside) have direct roots from the south.
So we speak a lot like those in the south.
Im born and raised in Chicago.
Got told I "talk white" by black folks in Chicago growing up...
....but when I lived out east everybody would say "you from the south?"
because they heard a light twang in my voice.
shyt has nothing to do w/ how the city looks.
